What should I pay for my Spyder?

My apologies if this topic has been done before (couldn't find it on a search). Basically, I have been shopping around and the best price i could find from three seperate dealers was $14,900 (dealer demo with over 1,000 miles and lots boot marks on the seat, even the beginning of a hole). The 2nd dealer was $14,750 (new). The 3rd dealer's price was $14,600 (new).

All of these Spyders were yellow 08' models. Bone stock. Has anyone been able to get a better price on one than the prices listed here? Seems like the demo should go for a lot less $$...

Also was wondering if anyone has any insight as to what the July 1st promo might be (if any)??

Thanks for any help. Of course, I'm looking to spend as little as possible as these prices are just out of what I was looking to spend (was actually planning on buying an 09' Concours but fell in love the the Spyder!).

Thanks!!

I was too excited to buy my 2009 SE5 yellow spyder a week ago, did't shop around for prices. Had only 43 miles on it and payed $18,800.00! That was exspensive, but I love my spyder. Have you checked ebay?:spyder:

No not yet. I'll see what they are running there. I'm thinking the $14,600 is a pretty good deal from what I have seen so far. I really wish they would come down more on the demo bike though...

welcome to the site. Normally, you'd get this from a lot of folks who are now out on the road headed toward California.

Anyhow, including hold-back from the manufacturer, there is about a 20% margin in the Spyder for the dealer. And, they have to make money on the deal... so, I consider the $14.6k price you've been quoted as fair for both parties.

I can say that most of us early adopters paid considerably more than that!

Paid 12,200

Just bought a Yellow dealer demo (great shape, 3300 miles) from DDS Motorsports in Utica, NY. Since I'm in San Antonio, TX, we're still hunting for a good shipping option, but even if we take the first quote of $870, I'm around $2500 to the good over local best prices. My closest dealer, who I won't name, as I'll need servicing eventually, had no '08s except the demo at $15500 + $1238 freight and setup (fogs and HID) and wanted MSRP + $1238 freight and set-up for the '09 models.

I watched eBay for 60 days before settling on this one. The average used Spyder went for about $13,350, but over half didn't sell because they were priced higher than people would bid. The low sale was about $11,111, and the high was just over $18,000 for a touring set-up with Corbin seats and hardcases.
There are many for sale there with surprisingly low miles, and several dealers are using the site to add to their floor sales. Good luck!

Wow! Thanks for the responses. Wish I was on my way to Hollywood too! I think I'll take the one for $14,600 as none of the ebay spyders are close by.

Think I may toss the dice and see if the July promo is any good though (if there is one).

I bought a brand new 08 2 months ago. Paid about 14500 before tax and tags, etc.... So the 08's you found seem to be a fair price. Just watch what they try to nail you for freight and such...They should be wanting to get those out the door considering it is almost July 09.

The price you were given for the demo is a rip. I found a few 08 demo spyders from 400 to 1100 miles that all came in about $13k to $13500. While you still get the 2 year base warranty, I'd say they are asking too much for a demo that has had a lot of rear ends on it.

Go with the new 08's. I've no regret on the price or model year in regard to mine.

My dad bought an o9 SM5 red on Saturday, 0 miles, for $15,500 plus TTL. He lives in Ohio and got it at ask superstore in Columbus. They quoted him $16,500 for a phantom which depresses me since I paid 17,500 in Austin a couple of weeks ago.

The dealership is big and they have three in the area. Said they sold over 100 spyders last year between the three stores and have sold quite a few this year, several out of state. When he bought his they had 30 in stock.

It was also mentioned that they are coming out with two new models. A touring one, which we all pretty much new, and a smaller version. Maybe better for around town or better mileage?:dontknow:

Any way we shall see and good luck.

shop and be ready to travel

My spyder had a previous owner; not sure how many owners. Bought her used for 13700 with 1100 miles(note-no tax!!). Previous owner had only put 200 mi on her. Found her on Craigslist.com 40 miles from my door = destiny. I had contemplated flying to phoenix, az for one that had 600 mi for 11000, but it had been sold already (imagine that). That would have been a long ride home to augusta, ga! Check out craigslist.com; maybe destiny awaits you too. Love to spin webs every chance I get! Once you get bit by a Spyder, you won't ride anything w/o 3 wheels.:spyder2:

Ooh... The smaller model is probably our same Spyder with the 20 extra horses that the RT is supposed to have...

I can't see buying a demo that's had the crap run out of it by who knows how many, and half of those may not have a whole lot of experiance with bikes. Spend the extra money and get an new 08, you won't have to wonder about clutch wear, gear box abuse, how many potholes the front end has seen, etc. After all, this is going to be your baby!

It's like a computer...as soon as you buy one, there is something better...

Buy the bike and enjoy it...don't look back!

Didn't know about the touring model. Anyone have any pics of it? Kind of wish they were coming out with a "Super Sport" type model too. Maybe with a 1200cc hot rod motor!

In any case I am looking forward to getting my Spyder! Thanks for the help folks!

2009 quote

Just walked from a dealer that offer 15,000 plus TT&L for new 2009 red SM5 with hindel, 1 inch rizer, rear rack and backrest. So to me 14,600 for an 08 without accessories sounds a little high...just my opinion though i know 3 days after you buy one you want regret or even think about how much you paid...i am shopping hard only because this is spyder 2 for us....

Dang. Thats a really good price. I have some family in Cave Creek. Maybe it's time to fly in for a visit and ride back to Oregon...
