What Roads Prohibit Trailers

...and to make matters worse....when ya hit a toll road in that area...ya get charged the exorbitant "with a trailer fee!!" Except PA...our Goldwing friends in PA successfully lobbied their legislature and got a motorcycle w/ trailer exemption passed :)

There are some tunnels on Hwy 25 in Tenn that prohibit trailers that have propane.
All tunnels prohibit propane appliances from operating. We have to turn off our propane refer in the camper when going through tunnels. Also the Dragons tail has signs that state no trailers, but they are for campers not motorcycle trailers.

I don't think you can pull a trailer on the "Going to the Sun" road in Glacier NP. Bit that may be for camping trailers, etc. it's a problem if you're traveling through, because unlike Pikes Peak, you're not just going up & back down the same way.
From the Glacier National Park website.

Are there vehicle size restrictions on the Going-to-the-Sun Road?
Yes. To help reduce congestion, vehicle size restrictions are in effect. Vehicles, and vehicle combinations, longer than 21 feet (including bumpers) or wider than 8 feet (including mirrors), are prohibited between Avalanche Campground and the Rising Sun picnic area parking. Vehicle and vehicle combinations over 10 feet in height may have difficulty driving west from Logan Pass to the Loop, due to rock overhangs. Stock trucks and trailers are able to access Packers Roost on the west, and Siyeh Bend on the east.

My RT plus trailer is 17' so there'd be no problem with an R-622.

:shocked: If it were me; I'd try to map out my route first. :thumbup:
If ANY road along that route had a problem with trailers; I'd make it my business to find out SPECIFICALLY if those rules also applied to motorcycle trailers...
...And I'd be prepared to show exactly what those rules are, to any Law Enforcement folks, who interpreted the rule differently... :yikes:

what roads prohibit trailers

I agree with a previous post as to pulling trailers. Commercial and rv haulers should not are ARE NOT allowed to pull trailers on cretain roads. They are clearly marked. As far as pulling a trailer with a bike or spyder, hook up safely and enjoy the ride NO ISSUES.... P.S. road to the rising sun is a blast both ways...:yes:

NOPE

Your good to go in NJ and DE. Never seen or heard of any signs.
...............WRONG ..............No trailers on ANY PARKWAY in the Northeast period .............like the GARDEN STATE PARKWAY .....PALISADES PARKWAY etc.......That being said I am not positive about what a small trailer pulled by a MTC is actually classified as.!!!!!...................MIke :thumbup:

Looking to argue again....sheesh... private trailers are fine anywhere on the gsp especially small motorcycle trailers. Above 105 as long as you are under 7500lbs your fine. Commercial is not allowed unless you have a sticker.
Nice try though...

That's good to know WasWinger. I plan on getting up to GNP next July/August.

The only "no trailer" issue I have had was at Grandfather Mountain in NC. Tried to argue, but left the 622 next to their office and no problem.

:gaah:.....MR NJ if I send you the name of the Garden State Parkway officer will you write to Him and tell Him He doesn't know the Laws .....I was towing ( with my car ) a small private trl ..1200 lbs and was stopped ......................and in my post I said I didn't know about MTC's towing trl's .............Thanks for your interest , but not your wrong info, someone else is going to get a ticket based on it !!!!!!!!!.................Mike :thumbup:

WELL.WELL.WELL

If we go by what every tollway I drove on in the northeast charges, trailers pulled by MCs are "trailers"
"TOLLWAYS " are not the same as " PARKWAYS " ,,,,,they may both charge tolls but have different regulations ...................your welcome .....Mike :thumbup:

Here is a link to a doc

that may stop this argument.

http://www.operationsacademy.org/PD...Turnpike Parkway Regulations (6 Dec 2009).pdf

After reading this I believe that even though there are restrictions on trailers they are allowed.

I have been to NJ and probably won't be going back so I don't really care, and rules change all the time in this lets regulate their lives society.

A little research before arguing would be nice, and I offer no guaranties to the correctness of the info in this document.

Nice find! Yes, people trailer on the gsp daily and growing up in nj ive never, ever heard of an issue down south. Only the don't trailer north of 105 rumors....which most of us still do anyway. Mcgruber just has a big woodie for me right now...lol
I thought the 7500 lb thing north of 105 was for trailers but it looks like it includes all vehicles over 7000 lbs. Interesting! And no firearms and picture taking??..come on...haha

Near you I think the only places you might encounter a prohibition is on the NY Parkways such as the Sawmill River Pkwy, Bronx River Pkwy, Taconic State Pkwy, etc. These used to prohibit commercial vehicles and trailers, but I'm not sure if that is still in effect.

It is still in effect and includes ALL trailers, went to NY this year and they would not allow my motorcycle trailer thru the Holland Tunnel they made me use the Lincoln Tunnel, when i asked what the difference was they told me the difference is (are you ready for this???) you can't take a trailer thru the Holland Tunnel. No trailers allowed on any Parkways in NY.

The following type vehicles are not permitted on the Parkways within the Parkway system, unless authorized under an agreement with the New York State Department of Transportation:
(a) bicycles;
(b) buses;
(c) commercial;
(d) golf carts;
(e) hearses, except those operated by or for a licensed funeral director or undertaker while traveling to or from a funeral, interment, cremation, place of death or other destination for the acceptance and shipment of the body or remains of a deceased person;
(f) house coaches;
(g) motor-driven cycles;
(h) school buses;
(i) semitrailers;
(j) snowmobiles;
(k) tractors;
(l) trailers;
(m) trucks.

This means NO TRAILERS. (it does not differentiate between private, motorcycle, your brothers trailer or any thing else it says NO TRAILERS...)

Now you can argue all you want, this is directly from the New York State website regarding Parkways within the state of New York.

Your trailer is a small trailer those signs you see are probably for 18-wheeler trailer because of the weight or height. You dont have anything to worry about.

you are incorrect
