• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

WHAT MAKES A WORD A 'BAD' WORD?????

WHAT MAKES A WORD A 'BAD' WORD?????Bruiser and I were out this evening, trying to find the comet that was supposed to be in the western sky. No luck, but I started a conversation about bad words and why they are bad. I know that 'dam' is a structure to hold water back, but if someone uses that spelling in a sentence in the 'bad word' sense, is it still a bad word??? I know that da-um is used as a bad word (especially in our part of the country), but what is the difference between the two? There is also sh*t, and other words that I won't go into, but how did these words become 'bad words'? I guess trying to find a comet brings up strange conversation. Hope this doesn't offend anyone, but it's just for discussion to see what your ideas may be.

George Carlin did a bit on the 7 bad words...........that was hilarious. What upsets me is the miscommunication and watering down of the language when an athlete (basketball) gets fouled, (baseball) strikes out and misses his shot and you can read his lips to exactly what he was trying to convey, but the sound does not pick it up. or the Network could face a fine. For some odd reason I think less of that person, and the damage he is creating in the youth that is watching there sport hero, that he used the "F" word for something ridiculous as to what just happened. Everyone around him heard it, and it's ok! Wonder what it would take for the culture to change where a persons frustration used a different set of words, like " I messed up!" or I am so temporarily mad at myself or the situation I caused , or you Caused!,

Or how bout if the players themselves, with their Unions help of course, and collective bargaining, and something else I forgot :)came up with an acceptable list of one word adjective to describe their predicament and passion ?! .......What if we came up with new words for them to use!

I used a cuss word in front of my mama when I was around 12 years old. The word I said was durn. As soon as the words left my lips,---THE FECAL WASTE MATERIAL HIT THE VENTILATION APPARATUS. She made me go in the yard and break my own switch. Some memories never fade!!

We got soap in the mouth, usually after the backhand.

Born and raised in the Northeast, curse words were not allowed to be spoken by us children, and we did not hear them from our parents. My Mom always told me to consider the source and rise above it. In other words, don't lower our standards to someone else's.

Bob - you sure we didn't have the same Grandmom??? :opps:

That would make you about 68, And have a Brooklyn accent. :roflblack:

I wouldn't be so sure, I'm almost willing to bet that as soon as you start a conversation with one of the
locals, They'll know your not from NC. Your one of thems furener's from up north! :roflblack:

LOL! I'm in accent limbo. I still get asked where I'm from, and have lived in NC for 30 years. When I visit family up north, they say I've been down here too long. Guess I'm just unique! :ohyea:
