• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. What is the average mileage I should expect out of a rear tire?

Just wondering who you guys have install car tires on your bike? Do most dealers do it or independent bike shops?

My OEM I got about 9500 miles and the center was bare. I tried every air pressure. The OEM when it needed to be replaced it hydroplaned like crazy. I have about 8k miles on my Michelin and still looks like new. I've heard they don't make this tire anymore. What a shame.

Wear pattern?

I only got 7,000 miles out of my OEM tire...
A lot of it can depend on how you ride, and the roads that you're on.
Did the center tread section wear out first? That could be an indication of under-inflation...

I thought that if the center wears first it was due to over inflation??? Wouldn't an under inflated tire wear the sides first, as there is not enough air to push the center in full contact???

Yup that's what I thought as well,if they wear on the outside toe out too far, inside wear toe in too much?? Think that's right :)

Normally, that would be the case, but with a wide, thin-ply tire like the OEM Kenda there can be other causes. Underinflation reduces the tire rigidity, allowing the center to ballon more readily from centrifugal force, so the center wears from underinflation, too. The thin carcase and relatively flexible belts also allow the center to balloon at hig speeds, so if you do a lot of freeway riding the Kenda will wear faster in the center, too. The rules don't always apply in this case.....

Tire life

My '08 - new tire at 9,000 miles with a Kumo
My '10 - new tire at 8,200 miles with a Kumo (pick up the tire today - install next week)

YMMV
