• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What is involved with a Rear tire vs Front tires that makes it almost double the Mounting Cost? Drive belt?

What is involved in mounting rear tire on a Spyder vs 2 front tires that is almost double in labor cost? Is dealing with the drive belt the main difference??
 
Drive belt, Brake pads & caliber, parking brake, axle & bearings, remove drive pully from wheel, then reset all that back up and reset belt tension. and mabe the rear shock disconnect the bottom, some do it that way.
 
The rear tire involves pulling the axle and realignment after the tire change with retightening the belt to specs.. Possible removal of saddle bags, trailer hitches, or other items in the way.

The front wheel removal is just like taking the wheels off a car. No drive line, belt alignment or tighning, no saddlebag or other items in the way up front. Just back the lugs out, take the tire and wheel off, and it goes back the same way. If it was aligned when you pulled, it will be aligned when you put it back and tighen the lugs.
 
Removing & replacing the front tires on a Spyder is basically the same as on your car - jack it up; undo the lug nuts; remove the wheel; remove/refit the tire on the rim; balance the wheel; replace the wheel on the Spyder; do up the lug nuts; let the Spyder down off the jack... ;)

BUT, removing and replacing the rear tire is somewhat more complex. To do that, you need to take into consideration not only the drive belt, but also the axle shaft; the drive sprocket; the brake disc & caliper with the parking brake cable; the air bag height sensor linkage (if fitted); the belt tension and alignment; checking & maybe replacing bearings; and the need to raise the bike significantly higher just to get the wheel out from under the fender without damaging anything... and there's probably a few more things I've overlooked besides. :rolleyes:

None of those 'extras' for the rear are as simple as pretty much the entire job of removing & replacing a front tire; in fact, most of those mentioned will each likely take almost as long as it takes to do the basic remove & refit of one front wheel; so there's a LOT more involved in doing a rear tire than there is in doing both the fronts - and you don't expect anyone to work for nothing, do you?? 😖
 
Definatly the extra time and ability required to remove components on rear wheel. Took me better part of a long day to do the rear. And I would say I'm pretty skilled. But having not done it, I really took my time and read thru the manual along the way. Next time shouldn't be to bad. And I'll add I broke down the tire and mounted with tire spoons, no machine.
 
I am willing to accept the cost of having the excellent Spyder tech at the dealership where I purchased it do the job because, amongst other things, whenever he does it he verifies the belt tension with a Gates electronic meter and its alignment. I've done several of the 28K mile services on it but I prefer to leave the rear wheel to a pro. I also have a replacement set of rear wheel bearings and associated parts that I bring with me so the roadster doesn't have to wait in the shop for arrival a NIS part as the dealership is 90 miles away.
