What Front Tire Pressure in an F3?

2015 F3S
Bought used 2020 with 12800 miles on it, changed out front tires today. Hankook 175/55r 15 Ventus V4ES H105. Have been searching the forum to see what pressure other users are running in them. Stock Kenda KR31 show 17 psi... only found one person mentioned 18 psi, another said was going to run less pressure in the next set. I set them at 21 psi. to start with. Any other recommendations??

Because Auto tires ( like Hankook's ) are better constructed than Kenda's they will need LESS psi's to function at their best. Both Peter Aawen & I like 15 to 17 psi for the fronts when using Auto tires. .... The difference for use in the REAR is more pronounced. We both like 15 to 19 psi, it depends on the total weight of the Spyder, + operator, + passenger, + load, and how briskly you operate your Spyder...... hope this helps .... Mike :thumbup:

We ride two-up on a Kumho rear tire at 20 psi and it's wearing evenly and not to soft or harsh!

Sounds like I will have to do a little experimenting. up & down a few pounds and ride 20 or some miles at a time and see what it feels like. Or if the tires are getting hot . I put a Kuhmo 225/50R15 on rear. If i remember i set it at 28 Psi. 17 psi. in rear sounds low to me But you all have more experience than I do. this is my first Spyder And only have had it 3 years. Still trying to get use to it. Just put 24,700 miles on it since I've had it. So far the maintenance has been quite a learning experience. the most fun thing was changing the water pump!!

Not only do I have more experience on Spyders, but I have expertise on Tires. I had enough schooling to be classified as an " expert witness " in court ..... Not bragging just giving a reason why I can be trusted to give you supportable facts ..... and so does Peter Aawen ..... Mike :thumbup:

Confusion on Correct Tire Pressures - what should I use?

I have a question on tire pressure I could use some help with form some more experienced riders.

Per the manual my page 104 for my F3 Limited my front tires are to be at 17 psi cold. Then on page 180 under specifications it shows nominal at 15 psi with a Min of 13 psi and a max of 17 psi. So, this is all a bit confusing.

Then my tires state between 15 psi and 30 psi. FYI, I have the original KENDA tires that came with it.

I should note I live in Arizona where it is a bit warmer more arid than some cooler climates.

Please let me know what you experienced riders recommend for front and rear tire pressures.

I know there are many posts on tire pressure but there are too many and it can get confusing so I thought I would ask for a fresh prospective.

:agree: with " Isopedella's " LINKS ..... and Kenda,'s are basically JUNK - Period ..... They are weakly made and NEED the PSI"s they recommend ( especially the REAR ) to function at all .... If possible - after they wear out get Auto tires to re-place ..... you will be much happier ...( and Safer ) ..... Mike :thumbup:

may carry the maximum load, given mostly on sidewall in loadindex.
The 13 psi then for light loaded, and the 17 psi for heavy loaded to the max allowed.
My idea is that at hott ambiënt temperature, you need higher cold pressure ( when temp in and out tire the same).
But " tirespecialists" on RV fora dont agree with me.
They state that if 15 psi is the recomended, you have to fill that at 30 degr F and at 100 degr F.
My idea is to let it flow with ambiënt temperature. Can give a long article I wrote for RV with 80 psi cold used, to explain why.

If you search for next of tires, I can make a presdure/liadcapacity list for your tire(s).
1. maximumload or loadindex.
2. Pressure behind AT given ( think 30 psi).
3, speedcode.
Then max speed you use, and wont go over for even a minute.

Then you " ONLY" have to determine the axle or wheelloads 99% acurate, and look them back in my made list.

Peter & I have determined the best PSI's considering the WEIGHT of the Spyders ..... this is tire SCIENCE ..... the Kenda's are JUNK , weakly made and only barely adequate for the Spyder's ..... Mike :thumbup:

I dont own a Spider, only react on tire questions.
End 2007, I got hold of the official european formula, to calculate tirepressure, and went running with it.
Was for radial car tires.

I would like to know, what speeds allowed on spiders and what speeds driven.
Special vehicles like Spider mayby have tires that are not that thorow tested as cartires.

In the RV world also many tire issues, because TT maker chose for tires with to low reserves for load and speed.
Many cheep tires got a bad name by that, while the tire where not realy bad, but used over their limits.
Same thing can be going on for Spiders, that Spider uses tires with to low speedrate, or not tested for speed for instance.

So if some can give all the specifications of tires and Vehicle, I can yudge better, if this is going on here.

I'd say your in the ball park with 18 psi.

any auto tire works best using 15 to 17 PSI, the higher the number the firmer the ride - it's a normal trade-off. I ride aggressive and like 17 for my Vredestein's .....Mike :thumbup:

Hi... I have a (stupid) question bc these different psi are confusing. Got a 2016 F3 limited with all 3 Kenda tires. Just bought replacements Gen Altimax RT45 215/60R15 & 2- 165/60R15 82H no name brand. I'm a 110lb aggressive rider that usually run at high speeds & a lot of twisties in the Hill Country... I live in South Texas where we're in triple digits. Today we're in the 80's. Now my question is what psi should I run in these new tires? I 99% ride solo.

16-17 front
17-18 rear
Your lower weight may need to drop ~1 lb from my settings.

I also ride 99% solo. I am a moderate rider, and I take corners at a moderate speed.

At some point I will be getting new tires. I currently have 3,000 miles (life got in the way). As of now the OEM Kenda tires treads are OK.

Hi Deanna, not sure yet in the process of switching the tires. But I trust the tire gurus on this forum. But will let ya know as soon as they're on. Waiting on the 2 front to be delivered then off to TX Outlaw Cycles to get 'em mounted. I already have the beads balance so they'll just put 'em in the new tires. So hopefully Thurs I'll be able to test drive.
