• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What do you think?

Changed my spark plugs today (9400 miles) left one look normal. The right one was white. After the install got a lot of backfiring and missing a lot. Turned it off. Waited a few minutes and started it back up still missing and backfiring some. Repeat process no backfiring some missing. Decided to take it for a short run (about 20 miles with 3 stops) Backfired once. No missing I could detect and ran just fine. I doubled check plug wires. Everything seemed fine. Any ideas to the backfiring and and the missing right after install?

Probably the computer figuring out the timing and mixture. Had this happen on my truck twice.

First time was when my plugs where way past needing changing.... Ran rough until I took it a mile or so down the road and back.

Second was when I proactively changed both O2 sensors. That ran like crap for 5 to 10 minutes then cleared up.

If this was leaded gas, I would say that the one cylinder sounds very lean, or that plug is hotter. Normally this would be a result of a plugged fuel injector, but the Spyder has only a single fuel injector, not separate ones for each cylinder. Could also be a vacuum leak at the intake of one cylinder, or an exhaust leak that leans out the cylinder by reducing backpressure. An exhaust leak alone can cause the popping, although a lean mixture can, too.

With unleaded gas, things are different. The normal color is very light brown...almost white. A lean cylinder usually leaves no color at all, and may even blister the plug insulator. Be sure you are interpreting this correctly, and that the right cylinder isn't the normal one, with the left side running too rich. If that is the case, and the plug is not wet or fouled, it might be a weak or intermittent ignition problem, causing the cylinder to miss occasionally. Bad plug wires are the most common cause, although there are others.

Spyder DOES have 2 fuel injectors, so it could be an injector problem as well.:f_spider:

I did the same thing and got similar results.

Check the tubes that are pressed fit on the throttle body. One of mine was not seated well and when I eventually found it, it was a simple matter of resettting it with a drift punch and some stud mount.

Good luck.

Thanks for correcting this. I was going by a look at the parts fiche, which only lists one. Seemed strange to me, but I am a dinosaur, so what would I know? :D

The parts book was a bit vague and could fool an old fossil occasionally:D.....but the service manual mentioned 2 injectors.;)

This might not be the problem but I'll pass this along any way.
Many years ago i put new plugs in my CB750 took it out for a test ride
and it started to back fire a little. Pulled out #3 plug it was black. So i put
#3 plug into #4 and vice verse now #4 was black. Long story short Brand
NEW plug was bad.
