• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What are the differences?

Hi- I've been lurking on the board for a week or two now and am still in the research process for purchasing a SE. My neighbor has a Phantom (had them build a SE Phantom- anyone else have one of those?) and I'm just looking for a stock Spyder SE new or used. I've noticed ads stating brand new 2008 as well 2009 for sale. So, two questions- How can they still be "assembling" 2008 models as well as 2009, and are there any differences in between a 2008 Spyder and a 2009 Spyder? Thanks for any input!:helpsmilie:

2008-2009, time to buy

I think that the 2009s are a bit more mature from a development standpoint. as with anything new, Not significant, but some of the nanny behavior has been tweaked. Also current BRP dealer incentives make it a great time to buy. I just did...2009 Full Moon SE. Go for it:2thumbs:

There are little - if any (never really heard of one) differences between the 2008 and 2009 models. Many dealers still have 2008 stock leftover that didn't sell.

I would not hesitate at all to buy a 2008 model.

+1 Brand new 2008 Spyders are ones that dealers have not sold yet. Some might be a dealers original "showroom model" that they were initially required to keep.

welcome

Which ever you deside, you will not be disapointed. But make sure you have enough money left over for the MagicMan.

Those are called "farkles"

I bought an '09 - the difference was $500, but the KBB difference in value was $2,000. Additionally, I'm sure there were manufacturing improvements - things learned over a year of production (I manufacture things in my business, and I KNOW this to be the case for me, so I feel safe the assume the same is true for BRP).

You may want to wait and see what's available for the '10s too. I haven't seen the prices for the '08 or '09s going anywhere but down, out here.

Just my $0.02

If you're aware of any manufacturing improvements from 08 to 09 I would like to know about them. The service manual covers both 08 and 09 and I've not seen any notations that the 09 models have any differences.

You can get a brand new 2008 Spyder for $2000-$3000 less than a new 2009. Would be worth it for me, especially considering they come with the same 2 year standard warranty. Whichever you get I would get the extended BEST warranty to give you a full 5 years of protection.

This has been discussed over and over in many threads. There is NO difference in the 08 to the 09. Whatever improvements they may have made, they made to both through recalls. The service manual is the same for both and I myself have confirmed with our friendly southeastern tech rep for Can-Am that many of you got to know in the smokies last year, they are the same machines. Now the 10's may be a different story but the rumor is, just body additions, nothing new/imporved on the mechanics. Maybe they will get rid of the self destruction fire button a few people have found.

I wasn't referring to anything "big" - just HOW things are assembled, how the production line is kitted, perhaps a change in a fastener vendor or two - little things that make a difference, not "substantial" things that would require retrofitting. Anyone who manufactures a product knows these things occur on a regular basis.

When I bought my Spyder, the price difference between an '08 and "09 was $500, and I rode mine out the door for $15,150.

I've seen new 2008 SM5's for 12,900. Assume there is still tax and other fees. I believe it was Dee's Marine in Michigan.

On brp's website there are new incentives. You get $1500 worth of accessories or apparel with the purchase of an 08 or $1000 when buying an 09, PLUS you get the BEST warranty for one year making the warranty good for a total of 3 years.

Thanks for the info

I know if I make a purchase, it would be for the SE5. Besides the BRP incentives there's also a tax write off of the sales tax if you purchase new. I'm curious as to when the 2010's come out and if they will be held back since there are still new 2008s at dealers. And, it might just be my perception, but it seems that most of the probs that people describe are taking place on mostly 2008 models. That's why I was asking if anyone knew of any changes between the years.

I sure appreciate everyones feedback! Thanks for making me feel welcome!:D

welcome I was told there was no difference between the 08 and 09 models. At the time 09 was all they had left. Couldn't of been happier with my purchase. Good-Luck!!! :spyder:
