There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. What an adventure to get home :(

Wow. Sorry to hear about your troubles. You weren't very far at all from my home. I wasn't aware of the Spyder rescue listings. I'll be adding my name tonight. We got home from Cuba around noon on Sunday, and I would have been more than happy to bring my trailer by and assist. I could have hauled you on into Memphis and visited my sis while I was there. Hope all works out well with your clutch.

Keep me in mind for next year's ride to Cuba. We can meet up in Cape Girardeau and take the twisties back road to Spyderfest together! Always good to have a road buddy along!

Slipping clutch

As the techs have already checked it out and verified it is the clutch, this may be a moot point, but thought I would mention it if someone else develops these symptoms. I noticed that several people chimed in that the symptoms indicated it "has to be the clutch." Well, I had the exact same symptoms a few months back, and like everyone else, I was certain I had blown the clutch. But after towing the bike into a dealer and getting it up on the rack, found that I had caught a rock or some other foreign object in the drive belt, and sheared off a dozen or so of the teeth. The bike acted just like a badly slipping clutch, but all I needed was a new drive belt.
Wish yours had been as easy, but just wanted to add this as food for thought if anyone else ever encounters the problem.

When I went to the dealer, the belt looked in shape. But I've also have read other comments that the dealer should look and some electrical areas since I did drive it thru heavy rain.

Thanks for your insights!

If it were me and they know for sure it's a bad clutch I would jus.t have them fix it now and figure out who's going to pay for it later.

When I went to the dealer yesterday they had most of the clutch out and reviewing the damage. They are getting the replacement parts and looking into other issues, such as the broken tab on the electronic "frunk" release, lining up the frunk closure and a malfunctioning cruise control... So I might be down for a week or more!:gaah::gaah::gaah:

I hope :spyder: ready for Memorial Day Weekend!!!

Thank you for sharing that Fred, It is something that I would not have "thunk". ....I will definitely keep that in mind should something similar happen to me

Spoke to the dealer Friday. David (owner) said that he got a hold of Carlo and that he's aware of the issue (via my email). David also stated that he's been contacting a BRP manufacturing tech and that the clutch was actually UNDER(??:hun:) factory specifications. So as far as I am concerned BRP will take care of the repairs. David's concern is that it does not happen again to myself or other :spyder2: ryders out there.

I will be heading out to the dealer tomorrow and see what the status quo is... I was told that the parts were in order but we will see how soon BRP ships them.

glad to hear its under warranty.

when was your spyder built? strange so in the few miles you put on the clutch actually was used up to under spec for replacement? alot of the miles were highway ... wonder if the clutch was not disengaging fully somehow.

Not sure... took ownership in November '10... I think I saw in the VIN tag June '10... But I never heard of an used up under spec part:dontknow:

Will get more answers today when I go down there after work  I just hope the parts are in and they can fix Gray:spyder2:well for this week!!

Update 5/11/11

After several days of phone calls, BRP techs finally got with the dealer techs and went thru all possible candidates that could have been the cause of the premature clutch slip. Although no root cause was found, BRP ordered other parts such as the clutch assist solenoid and pretty much a overhaul of the entire clutch (gears, plates, springs). And from what David was told about the warranty on this, BRP told him "consider it authorized"

Most Excellent News. Glad they took care of this for you! :congrats:

Gray is back home!

After 3 weeks of bad withdrawls... I finally got Gray Recluse home!:yes::yes:

BUT... We (the dealer and I) are still concerned about the issue happening again. When the tech rode it, he told us that he was having issues fiding neutral. I told him that since I got the new floorboards, I've been having issues finding it too, but then I thought that could be me since the only experience I have is with the :spyder2: and the tech could not find neutral based on the floorboard position.

Floorboards in question are the ISCI brands for the RT SM-5. Any suggestions would be appreciative. I'm thinking of swapping to the pegs and let the tech try that, but I don't want Gray out at the shop for another day...:yikes:
