• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What a mess!

Hi guys, as you can see from my joining date I've only had my RT-S for a few months, but I'm noticing that the rear of the Spyder gets all messed up with dirt from the road. Taking it's because of the vacuum/back draft nature of the bike, but is there any way I can stop this?:banghead:

Welcome to the club and your right the back end does get really dirty. Best advise I can offer is to just keep up with the cleaning, tedious but nessary.

What year RT? They all do it, but the 2010 had more backdraft due to the bigger windshield and more perpendicular lower deflectors. Updating those components on a 201 is of some benefit. The adjustable wind deflectors actually help, too, in the parallel postion, but in my opinion they make things worse in the other positions. Fitting a rubber mudflap (with stiffener) below the rear fender, or an auxiliary fender has helped some owners. My advice, just clean it more often (or ingnore it) and ride the wheels off it.

I blow it out with my cordless leaf blower every few days. Cleans up pretty good.

bikes are only getting dirty if they're being ridden and enjoyed...
...And that's the entire point of this exercise! :D

The mudflap WILL help...

The simplest way to cure this is to put a mudflap on the rear of your Spyder. there are several options,

1: get one from one of our sponsors, i believe two or three sponsors offer mudflaps

2: Go to a auto store and buy a 10 Inch mudflap (about 12.00 a pair) and cut it out to fit your spyder.

(i did Option 2) (Bro-in-Law did option 1) bet you cant tell which is which.

Great advice and thanks, think I'll buy some from the local auto shop, as you say, the problem with living in the UK is the postage and tax.
I try and do as many miles on the Spyder as I can, if I could ride every day I would but the 80mph winds we are getting currently are preventing me from burning the tyres out. But wind and rain in the UK is better than snow,,,,,,,most of the time,,,,,,

We need pics of both to compare!!!

mud flaps

The harley riders always ask me, if I wouldn't mind riding at the back, not because its a Spyder, but because it fires all the small stones at them when they ride behind me, would the mud flap resolve this issue.

Your bike isn't the only one in the crowd that's picking up road debris...
ANY tire will do it. nojoke

Other people complain that my bike is often dirty but I am too busy ryding to worry about it much. i clean it thoroughly once a week but when you ride every day it makes no sense to keep it spotless

We were riding with a couple on a GoldWing Trike last weekend and they had a plexiglass kind of shield mounted on their rear trunk. It was to keep the wind and rain off the passenger. The passenger really liked it and the rider said he didn't really notice any difference with or without it. It won't keep your machine any cleaner but it will keep your passenger's neck a little cleaner.

Just a thought..!!

you may also be getting brake and belt dust on the rim. If the belt is not tracking right this causes more dust and brake pads depend on which ones you got. But the flap will help with the road stuff...
