OP Spyder

Back in mid-March, Ann had the Cowtown performance package put on her RT. When we got a few miles from home, her Spyder started having problems. A call to Cowtown indicated that they had seen the issue a few times before and thought it was due to the different plug wires that had been installed. It seems like the plug wires didn't have adequate shielding (for this particular Spyder) and would sometimes cause the computer to prevent her from shifting gears until she turned it off and back on. These wires work wonderfully for most, just seem to cause an issue on a few lucky owners. Finally, on the 31st we were able to make the 240 mile trip back to Cowtown so they could address this for us.
While we were waiting, we got a chance to meet SpyderLady (Linda and her husband John) as well as Kevorama (Kevin) and Joanie. Great to have a chance to meet some members of the hard working Mo-gang and get to see some of the cool mods that these SpyderLovers have done.
Tom did get us fixed up in short order and we headed off for lunch in St James. When we left the Bob's Country Diner, we noticed a panel missing. A quick call to Cowtown and we were relieved to know that they still had the panel. We zipped back over and Tom installed the panel and we were on our way again. (hey, stuff happens, really happy that the spyder was running great) We made it to Vienna, MO about 40 miles from Cuba and stopped for gas. When Ann went to pull away from the gas pump, her Spyder wouldn't go into gear. :yikes: Oh no, maybe it wasn't fixed after all. She tried shifting into reverse and that worked - but now couldn't shift back to Neutral.
We called Jimmy at Cowtown and we tried resetting the computers (making sure we had to push the Mode button on startup). No good, still about 200 miles from home and its starting to get late in the day. Jimmy got a truck and trailer and drove over to help. Ann had backed into a parking space out of the way, so we couldn't just back it onto the trailer. This actually turned out to be a very lucky thing. When Jimmy tried to manually move the shift linkage into Neutral in order to load it on the trailer, one of the linkage nuts came off in his hand. He was able to tighten this and after a local test drive and confirmation from Kevin, we were able to head home. I suspect this was not a problem that they had caused, but they did not charge us anything to fix this issue and get us on our way. Jimmy even worked late (normal close on Saturday is 4PM and Jimmy was now 40 miles away at 4) to make sure we weren't stranded.
Ann and I wanted to thank, Jimmy, Len, Tom and Kevin at Cowtown for all their help. We even got a call from Cowtown around 8PM to make sure we had made it home.
What an adventure! We got to meet some nice people, ride through the Ozarks and see first hand what true customer service is all about.
