• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

No, I didn't but one, but I took the advice of several of you fellow members and sat on one. I believe it will work. However, I am concerned with some of the issues I have read about here: namely excessive heat, melting plastic and boiling gas. I would like to hear from any of you regarding these issues. Thanks

I have a 2013 and no problems with heat. No boiling gas (probably because I don't put ethanol in it). I've noticed that there are problems with almost every year bike and it's just nuts if you get or think you got one with a problem.

I'm having Corbin saddlebags made for mine and should get it in about 3 weeks.

It's great that your doing your home work

If I had to do it again , he'll to the NO:banghead:. I purchase a brand new sts and have had nothing but problems after the first three days out the dealer . The first week the dealer had to pick up my sts on a flat bed , every thing from heat issues , the red kill switch was bad , the dash was also flashing. I had other issues with it . Last years the bike was in the shop more times than me riding it . Many people on here seem to think its all good and to deal with it .

Way too much money for too many issues early on. I was so close to selling the bike but could not find my self giving my headaches to some one else.

Now with that said the unit is fun to ride when every thing is working . The wife taking owner ship thou. She is more patient than I am .

Try the 2014 theirs a lot of talk that BRP may have gotten it right with them models .
Good luck.

Love our '13

No issues at all and our gas does contain ethanol. Huge improvement over our '08. Good luck either way, some people were not happy with theirs but suggest you ask for specifics, not just I hated it.

I think dealerships make a big difference on how well a bike runs. There have been some fixes required for the 2013 models, still too cold to know if they work yet. There are lots of 2013 models that don't seem to have any issues. That being said, a good dealer will be a big help should any problems happen. I would go to Louis Power Sports in Greenville TX. Good dealer and service dept. and good price also, Tell Curtis that Ken Nicholls told you to go there. Good luck and hope to see you on the road soon.

I agree. Where in Texas are you located? Some of us in Texas can chime in and make dealer recommendations for you.
Enjoy the hunt for your Spyder. This is the best place (forum) to ask questions, etc.

Another vote for Lewis Powersports in Greenville Tx

I also am a new customer to Lewis Powersports. Have been in a few times, just to ask questions. They have been very helpful and informative. Have an appointment to have oil change and a general "go over" on (my new to me) Spyder on Monday.
The service tech, Waco Wright, has been my guy!! Has no trouble talking "Shop" with a woman!! I bought my Spyder in Jan. used and have no idea if the oil has ever been changed or anything else done. He's promised to give it a thorough inspection and fluid change and spend time with me going over the things I need to know!! Sometimes you just need someone to take you by the hand.

:agree: I'm glad to hear that you found yourself in capable hands! :2thumbs:

There are now seven years of :spyder2: models to choose from. You can still probably find new from 2011 on. The only model year that seems to have some red flags for me, is the 2013. The ST in particular seemed to have the most issues--although RT buyers also experienced some real big heat issues.

I have owned four consecutive models, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. I would have no problem purchasing them again, or purchasing a 2012 RT--which is claimed to be the best of the RT's. The new 2014 also seems to be a hit with the 1330 ACE engine. Not much has been posted about 2014 ST's. Is the heat issue solved on the two cylinder engine ST model? The jury is out on 2014.

IMO: I would not hesitate to buy a 2014 ACE 1330 :spyder2:. I would not buy a 2013 ST or RT. I am conservative, and I try to avoid issues if I can. DISCLAIMER--This is my opinion only, and may or may not be the opinion of others.

Good Luck in your hunt. Buy the model and year that works for you.

I have a 2013 RS. No problems yet. I have noticed a little heat on my left leg. I moved it out from the bike a few inches to allow some ventilation. So far, so good. --CH

RS did not seem to be problematic for 2013. The other flavors seem to have the issues.
