• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Weird happenings

So we left this morning to meet some of our club to volunteer at the semi annual dorm BBQ on base. On the road about 10 minutes, a very loud squeal emanated from my RT. I thought oh no, rear bearing, but the sound didn't change pitch with speed. Turned the radio down, no screen warnings. Pulled over, the sound still there, loud as ever. Turned the bike off. Sound stopped. Started the bike up, no squeal the rest of the day :hun: Thinking it may have been a rear speaker. The wife was behind me on her Spyder and she heard it. But there's more. We met the rest of the folks going with us. I was leading them out to the base. The wife was tailgunner. We get to our destination and she said that her steering suddenly got "hard" comin g out of the mall parking lot and she had to push and pull hard. I took hers for a run around the base and yep, it was hard to steer in turns. You could actually feel it "push" back in a turn. Again, no orange screen warnings at all. Just hard to steer. So we parked it. We were at the function for 3 hours. We got ready to leave, I drove her Spyder, she drove mine. No problems with the steering. Normal as ever. Tried to duplicate the problem, didn't happen. :dontknow: Tomorrow I'll be looking hers over. Checking everything I can.

So, has anyone else run across anything like this?????

It sounds as if her bike's DPS is going a bit "wonky"!
I'd get that to the dealer for some closer scrutiny; Good Luck!

That's what I told her. Going to call the dealer Tuesday. The cost of repair :yikes: sure puts a kink in your wallet. Her '10 is way out of warranty. I haven't heard of anyone paying less than $1,300.00 for DPS repairs. I'm hoping it was a piece of dirt in the steering angle sensor. But...

Bob is right. Those were the symptoms when my DPS went out a couple of years ago. I was doing twisties and it was quite disconcerting. I did check my relays right away but that wasn't it. Good luck Bruiser.

Had our DPS do much the same at the owners event last year, had it checked out at the BRP tech tent and all they could offer up was maybe my original (2010) battery was suspect or a ground slightly loose somewhere. Has the 2010 battery been replaced or load checked?

BRP techs did confirm that the DPS unit was one of the "good" ones not the original 2010 version with issues.

After the incident at the owners event I upped my RPM habits to never cruise under 4500 and shift mostly at 6K or higher and had no more problems the rest of last year (another 10K plus miles).
I have installed a new battery over the winter but will continue my high RPM habits as the 2010 RT is a different bike with the kewlmetal intake and the high RPMs its like a frisky young horse that is ready to be let loose and Run.

Don't mess with a potential DPS problem. It may be something else giving your DPS fits. But whatever it is, you don't want to be fighting your DPS. It is very strong.

Sorry to hear about the glitches. Please keep us informed as to what happens. Hoping it is just one of those occasional glitches.

Ours are SM5. The battery is first on my list to check.

Have you had the bike since it was new? If not do you know if your DPS was ever replaced during the recall? If it wasn't it should still be covered even if the bike is out of warranty.

Jim,
I should have mentioned electrical connections, and battery condition also.
The DPS sucks up a lot of juice! :opps:
Had a similar problem on my '09 GS. Went away then came back worse than it was. Turned out to be corroded connectors. Cleaned and greased with dielectric grease & that solved the problem for me.

Talked with Brian, the service manager at Brewers Cycles this morning. I explained the problem to him and he agreed that BUDS probably wouldn't show anything, and even trying to track down the problem might be difficult. We came to the conclusion that a wait and see would work best. If it happens again I'll take it to them. He did say if I still wanted them to look at it to bring it in. I trust these folks.

Good Luck!

And the squeal??

So Bruiser, I am guessing your squeal has decided against showing back up? Maybe that is a good thing! As well, you might want to tell Brian about that issue too. At any rate, hope everything turns out for the best.
