We got our Hurricane in Alaska yesterday

We had a huge low pressure system punch through the state yesterday evening. It was huge--as in almost as big as the state.

Weather people said this had lower barometric pressure than Hurricane Isaac which just went through in the lower 48.

We had unrelenting wind gusts up to 100 mph along with rain. End result, power out all over the place, trees down, and residual damage.

I have not had power since 7:00 PM last night. There are about 30 trees down in my yard and wooded property. Six big ones fell in my yard, and one hit the roof of the car denting it nicely. Insurance adjuster time this AM. No other property damage that I could find at this time. Typing this from Anchorage, at work.

I hope everything goes well with the adjuster, and glad you are safe. Rar and I spent 5 years in Fairbanks and didn't have to worry about any big trees or storms for that matter. I'm sure glad we have more than 3 months to ride Rar's Spider here.

KNOW ALL ABOUT THE "NON" hURRICANES

Late fall we sometimes get some doozy wind storms here in the Northwest, western side of mountains. What the eastcoast calls hurricanes but ours are just plain old Wind Storms. Happy your home is ok.......and you and yours are safe.ray:

Update on trees. I have a 2.5 acre wooded lot as my property. 6 big trees came down in my yard proper. The remaining trees down, I counted from my window. It look like someone dropped a bomb on the woods. My neighbors are in the same boat. Trees down all over. The fire dept came through about 2:00 AM and cut trees away that were blocking our road. Three of them helped lift the tree off my car so I could back out from under it. The whole area looks like the aftermath of a tornado. We live in a beautiful heavily wooded area with a block of trees or so separating all the properties.

You're gonna need a new Wind Gauge: I'd suggest about a six foot length of heavy-duty logging chain...
On a calm day; it'll be straight out!
When it starts getting "interesting": call your neighbors and tell them to keep an eye out for it! :yikes:

I can't recall ever hearing of such winds in Alaska. Unusual. :shocked: Glad you and family are safe. I think I can hear the chain saws here in NY. Good luck with the cleanup. Hope all goes smoothly.

Thank you all for your concerns. Weather forcasters are now stating this is the worst storm we have ever had. I am still without power and one of the "lucky" 3000 in my area that does not. City wide counting the Anchorage area there are over 16,000 still without power The power company still has to fix two poles and transformers within a couple blocks of my home on each side. I am going to venture a guess on who is last to get power?:roflblack:

So, do you get the same kind of horrible wind deductibles (%age of your coverage rather than a dollar figure) like we do down here, or do you get just one deductible?
