There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. water pump dribble question

So getting the spyders oil changed before spyderfest, report back is I got the dribbles.:banghead: antifreeze/oil coming out the weephole. They said Very common, they have 2014 they have changed them on. They say I it takes 4 business days and one day to fix. That gives me a two day Window before we leave. Now the question. .. What if they can't get it done in time? Do we cancel our trip, or have them top off and not worry about it until we get back. I personally have only seen a spot on the floor a couple of times (thought it was a neighbors stinking cat in my garage marking his territory) I'm lead to believe it is not the end of the world but what is the consensus? ?:dontknow:

A friend of mine has had that for quite awhile and he said now they have finally ordered a new water pump for it. YIKES!!

The dealer discovered this problem during the 4000 mile checkup. He said it would be OK to ride until the repair parts arrived. He scheduled the fix for four days later. I dropped off the Spyder one evening and they had it fixed the next day.

Here's what you do..!!

Have them order the parts from the closest point and let you know when they arrive. Then double check on the replacement time. If it seems good go for it but if doubtful do it when you come back. Check with other dealers in the area. But don't give them the roadster till they have the parts. There known to pull it apart and will not reassemble it till they have the parts...good luck..!!

Water pump leak.

On my 2013 RT Limited, the waterpump was leaking (around the shaft) during the first (600 mile) service. The next day I left for Spyderfest. I had it repaired just after that. If I remember right, it took almost a week to get it back.

I'd say wait till you get back to have it repaired. This way they can order the parts now and have them there when you bring in the bike, saving you four days of down time.

Agree, unless it's dumping fluid have it repaired at your leisure.
It's very common and in the Aprilia world (same motor), those guys don't even mess with minor drips and weeping.

i would not sorry to say i would cancel your trip or fix it before you go i am a A.S.E master technician it may last for the trip it may blow out on the road if it does you have a chance of blowing head gasket or engine then how long do you think you will be down for you all know how hot these bikes run my self i would not like to take that chance just my 2 cents

If you do a little research you will probably find that even it is 'fixed' it won't last for long. Someone mentioned that the Aprilla riders don't worry about it.

I had mine in for a rear tire change and the mechanic pointed out the leak to me on his shop floor. I was going to have mine fixed until I learned how much of the engine needed to be disassembled to make the repair. After returning from the dealer without the fix, I have never seen a leak since. I think he kept a dribble on his floor to drum up business.

You need to have someone who knows what he is doing to take apart one of these engines. Ask me how I know?

I certainly would not cancel a trip because of this.

Are you sure its the water pump and not the infamous drip from the hose clamp? Pull your right side panel and check it out.

That is a good point. There are a lot of causes for anti freeze leaks that are easy to fix. I would be very sure it is anti freeze AND oil before going into a water pump repair.

You'll need a small inspection mirror and a flashlight to get to the weep hole area for the water pump if your only removing the side cover. It's pretty tough to see. Look right at about the 2 o'clock position of the water pump and on top.
It's really not the kind of design that would be prone to "blowing out" catastrophically. The ones I've seen and read about at worst, just drip. Many weep and I bet 90% of the spyder owners never notice as it never reaches the ground.
It's more known on the Aprilia since it's easier to see vs. The spyder where you really have to take the time to find it.
Personally, it is not something I would cancel a ride over.

My 08 has leaked oil and coolant slightly for over 25,000 miles and never gotten any worse. If just a slight leak where you can see a trace but not really leaking and leaving any puddles I would check the water occasionally and keep riding, this is very common on these engines. By design it is not likely to just blow out and leave you stranded, more of an inconvenience to your mind knowing that your spyder has a leak.
