• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Warranty Question - Would you let a regular M/cycle shop fit a rear tire?

Pete, I would be taking the bike into them and having them remove and replace. I live 62 miles one way from the only dealer in Las Vegas I would let touch my ride.

Thanks Bob. Just for info -

My nearest trustworthy Spyder mech is 300 miles away, and unfortunately he won’t install aftermarkets (he’s too small to entertain the thought of someone taking legal action against him if there is some kind of aftermarket tyre fail). There are some fabulous backroads to/from his service centre, so this process can take anything up to a week, even though he is only 6 hours away and only takes a day to do the service:ohyea:

Since I don’t trust myself to get the rear wheel and alignment right (and can’t crawl around on the floor much anymore), I get him to install a Kanine on the rear if needed when he does my annual service, and I remove and take my fronts in to my car tyre dealer to have them install and balance my aftermarkets when required. The Kanine is working very well for me.

Pete

If your Spyder Dealer says that they will install any tire that is good. I would consider letting them do it. The nonsense about reporting this to BRP, really makes no sense.

Unfortunately my Local Dealer will Only install BRP Tires. Just the way things are for now.

:agree: x2 And the liklihood that a dealer would actually report tire stuff to BRP, is a bit far fetched. Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :roflblack:

Like Ron mentioned, I had my front tires/wheels spun balanced where I purchased my car tires. Big "O". The rear tires on our spyders will always wear the center of the tread out first. No matter whether you run 50 psi or 0 psi. It's just the nature of the beast we ride. However, I run 17/18 cold and I seem to get the best performance and tread life at that psi setting. I know, I know many others disagree but that's my experience and I'm stick'n to it no matter what anyone else says.

While what you are saying is certainly true of the OEM Kenda tire. None of the car tires we've installed or use have ever worn out in the middle. It's the tire, and not the Spyder, that makes the difference. The tire doesn't know what vehicle it is running on.

True, however, all my replacement rear tires (General Altimax RT43 215/60R15) with a cold psi of 18 wore the center of the tread down first. Not nearly as bad as the OEM Crapenda tire. (I've carefully checked tire patch contact at low speeds to get even contact but not at high speeds. I can't run that fast and I'm sure centrifugal force has a big part to play in tire wear.) The BRP tech who's changed all of my rear tires said that was normal, and they all do that. Regular vehicle tires don't do it as bad but OEMs were the worst. According to him, you'll never get a spyder to wear its rear tire down perfectly even all across the tread. Weight of the machine, one or 2up, psi, tire construction, speed, road conditions, and temperature all have a part to play in tire wear. So, I don't know why, but that's been my experience from day one. If I'm doing something wrong and you know how to get an even wear across the tread please let me know. Thanks

I keep reading about how crappy the OEM tires are, but I have had no problem with mine at all. I'm at 17,000 miles with my 2021 RT and my front tires are the originals and still look and feel fine. I replaced the rear tire with another OEM tire by the CanAm dealership at about 15,000 miles and have no complaints as to handling or tire wear.

What brand and name of the OEM tires?
