• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Warranty question #2

I have not yet purchased the B.E.S.T. warranty extension and I am agonizing over doing so. I am not an extended warranty kind of guy. I understand everyones arguments for doing so, I just don't like spending a thousand dollars that could turn out to be for absolutely nothing.
All of you that have purchased the B.E.S.T. warranty extension . What will you do when the extended warranty expires? You're Spyder will now be three years older and you can't get a B.E.S.T. extended warranty beyond five years of ownership.
Will you buy a warranty from another company, buy a new Spyder, or keep what you have and ride it without any protection?

I figure by then one of two things....

  1. I will have or will upgrade to the newer Spyder offered then.
  2. There are enough Spyders on the road now with 5+ years of production and refinements that the parts are going to be available in greater numbers, and the Dealers will be experts on how to best repair them. Creating more efficiency and less cost. In this case I would not look for another extended warranty. I would ryde and pay for needed repairs... Besides... After four years of ownership of any vehicle we pretty much know if we should trade our vehicles or if we have a keeper. Then we take it in for the repairs and get everything done before the warranty expires..

My philosophy would be along with IWN2RYD's second thing. Not that I wouldn't like a new Spyder someday (an RT at that) but my financial priorities are not focused on a new Spyder.

:agree: Added to that, the value of the 5yo Spyder will be around $3K & we'll know how to disconnect things, without tripping on the dreaded "limp mode"...

I recommend buying the BEST warranty unless you plan on selling your bike before the warranty runs out.

The Spyders are temper-mental and any of the fixes we get now, under warranty, could cost hundreds if you don't have the warranty. Plus, the bike is still only two years old and who knows what might go on it in a few years...

For the piece of mind and for the roadside assistance (which does work well from my experience), it's worth the money to have 5 years of no stress ownership. If you don't get it and you have one or even two problems, you'll exceed the money spent on the warranty...plus, you'll be stuck in the road without a ride to a dealership....

IMHO, it's money well-spent.

Have the extended warranty on both Spyders. When they are depleted we will probably "drive 'er 'til she blows", then fix it if it seems to be affordable and economically sound...or scrap the offender if it is not. Same as any other vehicle.

I'm out of warranty now, Instead of buying a extended warranty i took the money it would have cost and put it in a non interest bearing account.
I gave the money to my wife :D
Right now the Spyders in the shop, ecm, obo.
Word is they'll cover the part i pay labor. Fair enough that is if they stick to that when the part comes in?
The truth is i never buy extended warranties. It' rare i keep a bike for more than 2 or 3 years,
The only reason i might keep the Spyder longer is because it's the only game in town.[for now]

Once the BEST expires for me, I'll probably keep it till it breaks and we can't fix it on our own. Then get rid of it. Basically BEST is paying for me to ride for another 3 years hassle free. After that, if I get hassles, I get rid of it.

I'm struggling with the same thing. I never buy extended warranties but this time may be different. I just had my engine rebuilt and the bill was over $4K. Luckily my warranty does not expire until next month and BRP covered everything except new rings ($150). While the chances of this happening again are slim I put about 10K miles every year so I may purchase for piece of mind.

I sure hope they retain their value for more than that. Guess that's why I have Harley's too. They hold their value better than any bike I know of.
