• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Warning bike goes into auto pilet, and accellerates itself.

My Geico policy covers towing of motorcycles. Even had a deal where I didn't want to use the service they were going to send out so they let me call my own tow and all I had to do was send in the tow receipt and they reimbursed me.

I'll have to check the policy...thanks for the info...I never even looked for the Spyder...

Called dealer, and BRP.

I talked to dealer first they told me not to ride, and just leave it sit they would schedule a truck to pickup with in a few day which was mostly because of my work schedule. The dealer has always been cool, and nice.

Then I touched base with BRP customer service about my safety concerns, and explained to them the whole story. They told me someone would get with me sometime.

Two hours later dealer calling back they want the bike back today, and want to send a trailer down. I got that worked out with my brother to meet them.

Minutes after dealer called BRP customer relations called, and wanted to confirm that the dealer was coming to get the bike today. They also want to make sure they told me not to start the bike, or do anything. They insured me that they will make everything ok, and do what ever it took to make me happy. Sounds good to me I just want a problem free purchase, and no fears.

Brother told me dealer trailer pulled up 45 minutes later, and off went my spyder. That was a relief I was not going to have to worry about. Thanks BRP

I find it a little odd that everyone is arguing about towing insurance instead of worrying about what and how this happened.:lecturef_smilie:

Thats good news.

On the B.E.S.T. webpage (and in my documentation):

"even during the roadster’s limited warranty period.... This service is provided by Road America, a subsidiary of the MAPFRE Group, and roadsters will be brought to the nearest Spyder authorized dealership when towing or for repairs."

But yes, you had to buy the B.E.S.T. plan for this coverage.

Yeah - I don't know where people got the information that there may be a limit on how far that tow will be - as far as I'm concerned it's to the Spyder authorized dealership - and if that's 500 miles - then so be it!

Yeah, me to :yikes:.

I'm sorta glad I've got the SM5. just pull the clutch and you can still stop.
As for pushing my Spyder 2 miles. I think if there where two of us and not far from home I'd do the same. Where I come from you could wait hours for a tow truck :doorag:

There is a bit of fine print. The BEST contract spells out a maximum coverage of $200 per occurance, the customer is responsible for any costs above $200. Doubt you'll get 500 miles out of them for that money.

@#$%^& Fine print gets you every time. Thanks for the info - will tuck that away in some brain cells not being used. Guess I would have the tow guy write up 2 bills--- one for BEST coverage - then the rest for my insurance carrier. Hopefully it never happens. Guess I'm pretty lazy - not pushing my Spyder 20 yards - let alone 2 miles! I guy could break a sweat doing that kind of thing!

...or nearly squash a foot when the Spyder rolled backwards over it, or skin a shin on the footrest. Don't ask me how I know. :roflblack: Normally, it pushes pretty easy on flat ground, however, even in our crushed stone driveway.

Just to warn others so they keep their right hand ready to tap the E-stop when the bike goes into auto pilot. Jumps from 1st to 3rd, and floors the gas with a message scroll of mission. I applied the brake, and it was over powering the brakes I had the sense to trip the E-stop in those second before hitting the back of a car. It locked itself in 3rd gear I called a buddy, and we pushed it two miles home. As you all know your warranty does not cover towing, and I was not restarting it to have anyone get killed.

Just a warning.:hun:
What did the dealer say caused your problem ?
Your lucky you have quick reflexes :yikes:

The owners manual specifically mentions doing a practice shut down using the kill switch while at speed. Good reminder for everyone to do this. SM5 owners will want to pull the clutch in and steer to the side of the road while applying the brake.

Know your bike - and know it well !

This experience happened Sunday afternoon.

This happened Sunday afternoon, and my contact with the dealer along with BRP was Monday. I will keep you informed with what the results will be. I just really want a safe machine to ride, and enjoy so I will not be pushing them on the repairs with telephone calls asking what is wrong, or when will it be done. I want it right, and I feel that the dealer wants the same thing. Also they do not want my bike any longer than they have to also. They are one of the more well known dealers in the Spyder family, and have good rep around my area so it should be cool.

It wasn't the bike, it was the rider! You probably were attempting to play around with the electronics as you had threatened and look what happened! And no, you can't make your bike into a transformer no matter how hard you try! :joke::D

Glad your ok! I'll be interested to see the cause of acceleration , as even the SE5 has a regular throttle cable setup and having been on the technical side of the industry for 24 years and counting , I can't see how it could do that without an input from the rider. Something had to pull those butterflies open on the EFI tracts , the computer has NO control over that part , nor could it as it is designed, it is not a electronic controlled throttle , thats 100% rider input via old fashioned cables.. Now , jumping suddenly to 3rd gear while the rider held the throttle in the same position as he was in in first gear could sure seem like a sudden burst of acceleration , I wonder if thats it? We will wait for your results. Good luck!

That was my first thought, too. There should be some kind of programming to prevent accidentally jumping gears manually (twitchy thumb?). Some kind of delay mechanism. The machine should never be able to shift two gears automatically, as the rpm would not increase enough to select the next gear. I will say that while our Spyder has experienced idle problems, where the rpm did not drop with the throttle manually turned off, it has not accelerated on it's own, just failed to return to idle. Although that problem could be either mechanical or electronic, a "stuck" throttle such as that, combined with an unexpected jump to a second higher gear, could indeed cause a burst of acceleration.

Yeah so there would have to be 2 separate failures essentially , a mechanical failure on the throttle side AND a electronic failure with a shift servo , both at the same time. hmmm.. I am really curious what he finds out.
