• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Want to buy a Spyder but cannot fit my leg to the brake location

Good day. I am new here. I have been riding Harley dressers for many years and my knees are starting to kill me in stop and go traffic. I went to look at the Spyder RTS. I love everything about it except for one game changer. Because of the angle of my leg and foot, I cannot get my foot to the brake without literally lifting the right side of my body (hip, leg, knee) to get at the foot brake.

Put another way, I cannot cock my foot back any more that where it sits on the floorboard, so my whole leg has to rise to get over top the brake.

This is really discouraging. I can't believe there aren't others with this issue.

Does anyone know of solutions? Can the brake be moved to become hand controlled? Or can the floorboard be changed to a peg, then the pedal be chopped / lowered?

Thanks for your help.

:welcome:
I.S.C.I. offers a handbrake kit for the RTs... you might want to check them out.
(They're a sponsor in here; you can find a link to their website on the home page)

Just in case you are interested, the older Spyders do not all have floorboards. I believe 2012 and prior came with foot pegs.

The BRP Comfort seat option moves you back 2" which results in a much more relaxed leg/knee angle.

There you go...!!

this should not be a game changer. As you can see you can add the hand brake option, change seat position depending on the model eliminate the floorboards. Though I don't have the RT/ST I modified my brake pedal to suit me...

From my experience the ISC hand brake can be used to assist braking but does not provide full breaking unless you have superhuman hand strength. I put one on as and assist during panic brakes but it could not do the job that the foot pedal does. I did buy the optional handle but neither did the trick. Now, there may still have been a small amount of air in the new install but I did purge the lines 10 times to be sure. I wonder if any one makes a servo/hand brake with potentiometer for variable through?

In my (no so) humble opinion, stopping is SOOOOO over-rated. Just ryde it....phuey with stopping. If you don't plan to stop you don't need brakes. If you don't need brakes, you don't need to reach the brake pedal. If you don't need to reach the brake pedal....

I have a similar problem ,had my hip replaced and nerve damage, so I have a hard time with the foot brake.
I installed the ISCI Hand Brake and use it 100 % of the time with very good results. Maybe 80-90 % of the foot brake, which is still very good. They do give a discount for the handicapped.

I prefer my pegs for that reason. It just felt weird having to pick up my foot to hit the brake. The peg just offers a nice rocking action to hit the brake.

I put on an ultimate seat that moves the rider back....I couldnt use the brake without lifting my whole foot up. I also adjusted the brake pedal down a little bit and now it works like a charm!

i have the hand brake and it is worth the price for me because i have the same problem using the foot brake, i also added the extended brake pedal for emergencys

I went from pegs to Web Boards and have no problems lifting my fot to find the brake. In fact when I am stretched out I can use my heel to brake.Much more comfortable than pegs.
