• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

want do have usb to radio, pooh pooh to ipods

I'm a fan of the man. I wasn't even driving when he was making his original "good stuff". When I was 21, he teamed up with Chrysler for a while, and I got one of the '80's turd boxes - and '83 Shelby Charger. So, way back even before the "Internet", when you had to stick a 5.25 inch floppy into your PC to load America Online, or Prodigy, I had that screen name. I still have the car, too. Just a tad more updated, and more horsepower...
COOL! Met him once at his school of automotive tech in north Texas. I had just purchased a 2007 Shelby then and was learning all about him and the cars he had a part in. I'm a Ford guy and still have a car he helped shape and is a part of his history, but does not have his name on it. 2 years ago I was fortunate enough to be able to part with my GT500, and a 65 Mustang, and purchase a 10 year dream car, a Ford GT. Colorful and interesting life Carroll led. Made a great many things happen.

I hate the whole apple thing on my Spyder to. I have all my music on mp3 players and refuse to put apple software on my pc so it can take all my music and make it "apple friendly". One of the coolest thing I did on my Goldwing was to remove the CD changer in the trunk and I bought a harness that would allow my to access and play music from a flash drive. It was like having a CD changer that held a 1000 CD's and it was controlled by the radio.

Has anyone actually tried to patch a standard MP3 player into the din plug in the trunk? I say this because I only got my ipod nano a few days ago, works well and I noticed that plugging the BRP supplied lead into the ipod before connecting the the din plug end kickstarted the ipod which suggests to me that there is some sort of software chip in the ipod end of the connecting lead as an ipod will not start by just plugging a usb lead into it that is not connected to a usb device. I don't know much about this subject as I was only an electronics engineer for 50 years, but I would suggest that the radio unit is a standard MP3 device and the software to alter ipod to MP3 is in the BRP lead, no one will ever admit to this as I imagine in the design backhanders were going in one direction or another to use Ipod. I don't have the time or inclination to research this as I have now bought an ipod nano 6 for just a few bucks on ebay and have more important farkles to play with, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has concocted a usb lead to fit.

Which ever protocol it uses must have 5v, L+R+ground and a clock and data line. maybe it's only a different clock frequency, hence the chip in the lead takes care of that. it can't be that technical as my 20 dollar radio with usb input on my other bike controlls my sony MP3 player in the same fashion as ipod on spyder.

I like apple! Fuji, gala,Washington, granny! I love apple products! Apple pie, apple sauce, apple cider! Just saying!:roflblack:Don't anybody get offended!:roflblack:

My Apple nano 7 came with USB connection. But since I got a 15 RT-S with thirty pin I had to buy a lighting to 30 pin for my iPod to work. The 16 and up Spyder use USB connection.

AS SOON AS YOU FIGURE IT OUT.......

PLEASE LET ME KNOW, you will need some electronic genius with lots of time
to make it all work.
It all sounds good to me, I would call Bob and check again he mapped out the
system I bet he can tell you if it can be done.

I'm on a mission. I hate that everyone has catered to Ipods and all there proprietary crap. Tired of no completion and the poor sound quality, well at least I hear when I play anything but an ipod to compare it to.

A lot of devices use USB to allow you to plug in devices, not just ipod, why not the spyder. There is no reason that the only device that I can run to the radio and control the music is a crappy icrap device. I want to run others. I think theres got to be a way to run just about every device to our radio. I for one just bought the Hifiman 901 as Ipod is just crap. I hate earbuds, want to punch anyone who would even suggest them as a good listening headphone when they are earphones and I hate them. Well I want to be able to figure out how we can all do this from the 9 pin or otherwise to be able to run all the other players that many of us rather use. It can't be rocket science.

I think all of the portable xm or Sirius units, walkmans, all brands of mp3 players etc should be the same, but I'm not sure, or at least I think there has to be a way to wire all these devices with correct wiring and then via usb run them into the radio on the spyder rt.

Can anyone be of any help? if the connections in all Usb are the same then why not a ipod cable adapter to go, 7 pin din to ipod plug to ipod plug adapter to usb female???

Finless figured out the dongle, I think that he's going down the right path with figuring out the wiring. There could be an endless number of things we cold do with the right connect to the radio and then the correct plugs for all available devices on the market.

I have xm for life, no more bills, so long as it's using my current portable device or I have like 2 or 3 upgrades I can do and the service is still free, so I have no plan to pay for multiple xm radio services in multiple or on multiple toys when I can pull the device and run it to the next toy.

So heres what I'd like.
1. to run my xm portable from the trunk to a usb so I can control the channels etc. I think all it would be is a matter of figuring out the pin config and they would all be the same because the devices are meant to plug into home audio players, I think all the same.

2. I'd like to run my hifiman from the trunk and have full control of the tunes as well, or any music player.

3 be able to run these all through the speakers and the bt dongle, which has been figured out already.

Please tell me this isn't just a dream I'm having.

Keep in mind most of the portable devices aren't Bluetooth, usually just phones.
