• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Wannabe Spyder RT Ryder from the UK

Hello all,

Just a post to introduce myself and say hello. I registered a couple of days ago but had issues with the activation link and my spam filter (it must have had ideas on the word lovers!!). I've also registered last week over on the other channel but there seems to be more going on here.

Well, my name is Nito, I'm based in the south east of England in the UK, I have two Aprilia V-twin motorcycles (2002 Tuono/2008 Caponord) and my wife has a Can Am Outlander Max XTP 800R ATV/Quad. We have two sons 9 and 7 and the original plan was to buy two quads so we could take the kids out on the back in relative safety for family days out as I wouldn't feel responsible putting them on the back of the bikes.

Instead of two quads, we started considering the Spyder, which I've been looking at from afar for quite a while. I finally had my first test 'ryde' a couple of weeks back on a 2013 RS and a 2014 RT back to back. I was smitten with the new ACE triple and the RT is the model we are in the market for.

My wife, as much as she loves her quad, has never felt comfortable on roundabouts and it's not ideal for faster cruising, although it is good for 78mph, it's not as stable as a Spyder so it only makes sense that we sell this and upgrade her also.

She rode both yesterday back to back (a used RT 2011 and the new 2014) needless to say she is also hooked on the idea of one, so it could get very expensive very quickly. It looks like we'll be buying one, and when the quad and one of our other toys sells go for a second, I just hope that the kids enjoy it as much as we do.

I nearly pulled the trigger on a white RT-S SE6 yesterday but currently there is no stock of these for about 5 weeks. It's a considerable outlay and once the impulse of a purchase is removed you start thinking about all the sensible things you could do with the funds and whether we should start off with a used 2011/12 model RT and make sure the kids take to them etc before splurging on a new one. That said, I love the triple engine and could quite easily see me using a Spyder more than a bike!

Decisions, decisions, hopefully we'll be owners of an RT of some description soon.

Kind regards
Nito

:welcome:Wow, it looks like you'll be a 2-Spyder family pretty soon! Good for you all. I highly recommend the '14 RT. If you end up with 1 '14 and another earlier model, you'll be fighting over who gets to ryde the '14, so I recommend 2 RTs with the ACE1330. As to the SM or SE, I prefer the SE. Since you can't steer by leaning, when I test drove a SM model, I felt there was too much going on at once with shifting steering, turn-signaling, etc. The SE just keeps it simple.

I can't wait to see what you end up doing. In any case, you've come to the right place for all things Spyder. Welcome to our community.

Nito; my good friend!! ;)

Thanks for the welcome all (& Bob ;) ),

Hopefully I'll be able to offer some meaningful contribution to the forum soon enough!! In the meantime I'm enjoying reading through various threads and getting genned up on all things Spyder!

Welcome..!!

you came to the right place for everything spyder and more. We can help you just as much as confuse you. We are an opinionated group and many set in their ways. I would go for the most economical way for you and the family. The new ace 1300 is a great engine but I love the high rpm v-twin. The rest of what you get is all the same. I have had them all singles, twins, triples, fours, and sixes in all configurations. But really love this 998 the best. If I were to change it would only be to a bigger twin. Jmo

Welcome welcome!! I am somewhat biased and proud to be but my 2014 RT-S is an amazing machine. I traded my 2013 RT-S for this bike and I have never looked back. No comparison what so ever!!! Has your wife joined the Girls on Spyders Facebook page? Have her join. It is a wonderful group of caring women who love their Spyders. Let us know what you finally decide!

Welcome to the wonderful wacky world of Spyderlovers. What ever your end choice, this is the site to check for all things related to Can Am Spyders.

Thank you everyone.

I'm a little torn today, I've been going around in circles for weeks, wondering if I should spend £12k for a used V-twin circa 2011MY, until we know how the kids have taken to it before spending out nearly double (£23.5k) on a triple RT-S, or pull the trigger on an RT-S 2014. It's made harder by the fact that we only get the RT-S in white or cognac in the UK, whereas Black would have been my chosen colour or even the yellow looks great. If I do go with an RT-S, then; white or cognac???!!! I'm pretty sure the RT-S will be available in black next year which may be another argument for going for a V-twin short term then upgrade next year!

If I place a deposit, no doubt an ideal v-twin will turn up on ebay in the interim 5 weeks and I'll probably end up kicking myself. Spending out that much on the triple I'd want it to be my perfect choice which white or cognac isn't, that said, I quite fancy the idea of repainting in Scandal Green

Cheers

Welcome

Welcome Nito from an ex pat Brit and Spyder Ryder living in New Zealand. This site is full of very useful information and what ever spyder you choose you will be happy with. If I had the option I would go for a 2014 RT, the kids will love it, a spyder is so cool.
White's the way to go and you'll soon customise it to suit your taste.

Hi, Did you get a good trade in for your 2013 RT? I would like to trade mines. Not sure what I would get.

Hi Nito

You have found one on the best sites for Information on all things to do with the spyder

I have a 2010 RT-S SE5 Model

Been to Germany twice and Scotland on mine

Sales in the UK have been slow but seemed to have picked up in the last few months

Some owners have gone to the 1300 Ace Engine one and there are some very good second hand 998 ones out there
you will find most will have been serviced by Can Am dealers as they are complex machines

A couple of new owners are in the Kent area and it will be worth you looking at the UK Spyder Website :-

http://www.ukspyderweb.com/

I have posted items on both this site and the UK One - If you need any information feel free to contact us

Hopefully you will be joining our friendly Spyder Owners group soon

:welcome:I think your kids will love it. My grand kids (11, 10, and 8) got a ride on the back of mine two weeks ago and they did not want to get off. Get what ever one you feel comfortable with as all are good machines. For me I am glad I traded for the 14 as it is so much better than the 13 we had.
