VSS Light is On

So I was messing with my trailer wiring trying to get my trailer brake lights to flash with the "Magic Strobe". I cut the brake wire going into the 5-4 wire converter and was able to get the lights to flash on the trailer with the bike. However it caused my VSS light to come on and stay on. Now I only cut the wire on the converter pig tail not the bike wiring. Should I have/need to put two diodes inline and reattach the wires coming from the bike and Magic Strobe to make everything work together and not throw codes or faults?

Is there a way I can reset the VSS light without the BUDDS?

If you have the BRP trailer harness. It connects at CIC2. You should be able to unplug the y-harness from the main and reconnect connector CIC2. That should return the Spyder to stock and the VSS fault should go away. If not get the code.

The brake light circuit is directly connected to the ECM. That is on the 2013 wiring diagram and I assume the 2014 is the same. Feedback may be causing your issue.

I do have the BRP harness billybovine, would adding diodes to the circuit keep from having this with making the trailers brakes flash with the bikes?
I will disconnect the harness and give that a try to clear the code this evening.

Pillion rider switch shorted to ground.

FAULT CODE: C1183


MODULE: VCM (Vehicle Control Module)


DESCRIPTION: Pillion rider switch shorted to ground


POSSIBLE CAUSE: Pillion rider switch voltage out of range-switch defective.


SERVICE ACTION: Disconnect VCM and PRS connectors. Measure voltage between harness connector PRS-A and ground (expected value = 11 to 13 volts).Measure resistance between VCM-16 and GND (expected value > open}. Replace pillion rider switch.

So it's either a coincidence you had this fault at the same time or you accidently damaged the wiring for the pillion rider switch. Does not seem directly related to brake light wiring.

Bet I forgot to reconnect the switch on the seat when I removed it!

Could be. There are several pillion switch fault codes. Don't know which one it defaults to when not connected. Easy one to check.

That was it. :banghead::banghead::banghead: I didn't plug the seat back in! Stupid, Stupid, Stupid! I didn't evean think about the plug on the seat after I put it basck on the bike! Live and learn I guess!
