There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. VSS Indicator lamp on - is it OK to Ride?

I just got my 2017 RTS back from the dealership where they performed the front sprocket recall, did an oil change and a fuel injection service ($$$). My first ride today since getting it back and I noticed that the VSS indicator lamp is steady on. This was not an issue before they serviced it. It seemed to be riding fine but when I got home and checked the manual it recommended having it serviced. I am 2 hours from the dealership and they would have to come get it. Is it OK to ride until that is fixed? There are a few other issues with what they did also but that is for another post, another day, so they have to come get it anyway but I was hoping I could wait a few weeks so I can still ride.

Thanks

Warren

Just for kicks try unhooking battery for a few minutes and hooking it back up. Then take a ride and see if it still comes on. Just take one side off, that's all you'll need.

Well, Warren. Sounds like you would be better served by another dealer. A VSS light on steady, WITHOUT putting you into Limp mode, is frequently caused by the passenger rider seat switch being unplugged. Don’t know why they would be working under there, but raise up your seat high, look towards the rear and you’ll see some wires coming down from the seat. Following the wires down to the the frame area, where there’s a little cubby hole area, and ensure the plug is plugged in, if the battery advice from Mikey doesn’t work for you.

And also, while the light is on steady, call up the code and post it here if the above is not the problem.

Is it OK to ride? You just need to understand that there is some function of the VSS system that may not function to protect you. You decide if you want to ride.

Thanks to both of you for your ideas. I will check the battery and that plug. The plug idea sounds promising since one of the things they were doing was installing an aftermarket backrest (frankly, a piece of junk IMHO, but my bad for not getting the OEM or the Utopia - I will probably have them remove it and hopefully take it back). As it is, the seat was moved up about 2 inches when they did the work which I just realized when I tried to open the "glove compartment" in the center and the seat is now blocking it! So, it's clear they did not reinstall that properly so may have not plugged the switch back in. Needless to say...not happy, but I won't name names until they repair what was done.

EUREKA!!! The switch was the problem! I raised the seat and, clear as day, there was the plug just dangling in front of it's receptacle. I plugged it back in and the light is off!

Now I just need them to remove that damn backrest and put my seat back in the right place.

Thanks so much!!

Yeah. So, much for giving it a road test after maintenance. And, the seat being so mispositioned that you can’t even open your glovebox, is not a good testament to their competence, either. Taking it back there vs someplace else? Your call, but don’t pay them anything.

After how much I paid them already for the "work" that they did, I have no intention of paying them more. I just need them to make everything right again and convince them to take back the backrest. They have done previous work for me and I've been OK with it. But, the lack of care with this job really has me bothered. As we all know, the dealer/service network for Spyders is seriously lacking and that goes for Arizona also. There are some options to check out, but not many!

I have a good friend that has an RTL; every time he takes it to the shop, I have the chance to redo their work to make it right!! I feel your pain.
