Vibration between 5,500 to 6,000 RPM’s

I have a 2012 RT Limited, it now has 380 miles on it.

As I was putting the last 50 miles, of that 380, on it I noticed that in 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] and 4[SUP]th[/SUP] gear it vibrates quite a bit between 5,500 and 6,000 RPM’s.
From looking at this site I found information on the ‘break-in’ period of the bike, and have been trying to keep the bike between 4,000 and 6,000 RPM’s.
And not leaving it at one set RPM for more than 5 to 10 minutes.

I don’t know if it has done this from the start, since I was mostly riding really close to the house, but now that I have ventured a little further away,
I’ve needed to go through the gears a little further.

Is this something I just need to mention when I take it in for the 600 mile service, or should I take it back now?
(I’ve seen other posts similar to this issue so I haven’t been super nervous yet.)

Any advice?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Boyd.

Vibration in your RT

Vibration seems to be an issue with all of us. RT and RS have a problem with that super long belt. Heres how most are fixing it. Hope this helps!

Just shoot Jim a message, he's a great guy to do business with and very fair!

Just making sure

I just wanted to make sure that nothing was seriously wrong.

Thanks for the info.

Have them check the belt adjustment. A range of vibration is common, but yours is at a higher rpm than is usual. That is typically a sign of a belt that's a bit too loose.

Should I??

Should I be worried enough to take it back asap, or would it be ok to wait until the 600 service? (Again I'm at 380 miles currently)

I wouldn't want to put it off it will hurt something, but again I wouldn't want to take it in early if it's not a big deal.

What do you think?

You'll be fine. It is annoying, but not damaging.

Once again.

Thank you for all of your help!

This website and the people on it are the best.

From my research here, it seems to be somewhat common; especially for those who ride 2 up. I had the problem and reported it when I took it in for the 600 mile service. He found that the belt was loose and tightened it. All it really ended up doing was move the vibration point to the mid 4000 RPMs.

For me, this is the number 1 issue that makes this bike seem cheap. Coming from a Goldwing, which drives smooth as silk, this constant vibration drives me nuts. I'll probably eventually put a belt tensioner on, but I think Can Am should have addressed it in their original design.

My findings

We have been riding 2up 98% of the time.
And it seems like if I just twist the throttle through the vibration section it's not too bad.
But if for some reason I am sitting at that range it doesn't seem to go away.
Of course, I'm still breaking it in, so I try not to sit at the same RPM for long anyways.

I readjusted my belt a number of times 4 or 5 08Gs sm5, And all it did was change where the vibration's came on.:dontknow:

For what it is worth... I have read that prolonged belt vibrations can lead to bearing damage in the motor... not a cheap fix if that happens.

I agree... BRP should have, and should still address the issue.
