• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. We got my wifes RTS on Jan.5 on the 6th I talked to Bob at utopia about a backrest for the RTS he is waiting for someone to send a seat for prototyping, we live in Southeast Texas so I was hoping someone in a more hostile winter might send theirs first,my wife has 3700 mi. now and does not want to part with her seat for a couple of weeks [shipping ]. Bob said in on monday ,out by monday. My wife is going to Japan to see our first Grandbaby be born on May 21 if no one has done it yet I will ship ours then,I told Bob I would buy the first production model.I have one on my Venture and both of my wifes previous Goldwing trikes, they are great ,finest backrest on market in my opinion, if anyone decides to prototype please let me know so I can order the next one , if not will in May.

Nice to see such an avid ryder. Good luck on the back rest. Ryde hard but Ryde Safe.

I'm sure they know what they're doing, but I would think that it would be better if they had the whole Spyder to see the frame and rear seat backrest. This would be important for their R&D. I've installed the Utopia on my GL1800 Goldwing, Honda Silverwing & my wife's '08 Spyder (that's her yellow one on the Utopia website.) The Goldwing's Utopia uses a cross member of the bike's frame to make it rock-solid. The Silverwing's Utopia did not have any frame to assist, using only the seat pan, which left some flex. The '08 Spyder had a small amount of side flex, but they contacted me & had me send the whole saddle back to them. They added another brace, which helped. They contacted me, I didn't contact them. It impressed me that they would take that initiative. I did the installation on all of them myself, yet they improved on my install by stapling the seat cover down properly, as well as improving their design. Cool!

Utopia

I agree I wish someone could get their bike to them it would be best, they are great people to deal with and seem to want complete customer satisfaction, and as you know their backrest is the best, if no one steps up I guess we ll have to go with only sending the seat we are a long way from utopia and I still work for a living with no vac. scheduled anytime soon and my wife will be in Japan.

After talking with the good folks at Utopia, I am removing my saddle today & shipping it to them. I'm also going to ship the passenger backrest so they can see & match the stitching when they design the driver's backrest. It's always a nice touch when it "looks" OEM.

I'll let you know how it goes when I get it back.

Shouldn't be too long before they have one available for sale...

Utopia

Great I am contacting them to follow through with my promise and pre order the first production model , I guess it can be a surprise anniv. present for wife , THx.

Just left it with UPS & it is scheduled for delivery to Utopia on Wednesday. I also sent the passenger's backrest to use as a template for the stitching. Looking forward to seeing how it looks & works when I get it back!

This will be my 4th driver's backrest from them.

Very interested seeing that myself.

backrest

If you call utopia or e-mail he will notify you when they are ready ,I believe I am top of list he said he had a few more on list to contact, they are great to do business with.

I've been communicating with Bob, of Utopia, in many emails over the last few days. I've sent him many pictures with measurements, even pressed some clay with plastic wrap between the saddle & the bike at my dealer's showroom today to find out the clearance between the bottom of the saddle pan and the bike. We've had a host of discussions & have finalized the mounting bracket's design.

He sent me some pics of what he's made for me & it is awesome. The textured fabric is very-very close to what BRP uses, & the stitching matches that of the passenger's backrest. When installed on the bike, it'll look like something BRP did, as is always the case with Utopia's backrests. Keep in mind, he did nothing to the passenger backrest. I sent that as a reference for him to use as he designed the panels and stitching of the driver's backrest.

Here are a couple if pics he sent me:

Looks Great

We are leaving for Koyote Ranch and the famous Three Twisted Sisters of Southwest Texas on friday morning, going to call Bob at Utopia in the morning and see if there is any way he could have my wife one here by thursday I could install thursday nite , congrats as usual Bobs work is always first class.

On The Way

Ordered one for the wife ,be here next week, is okay will be gone anyway , anyone out Leakey ,Kerrville way look us up at Koyote Ranch , be there Friday for week.

Bob emailed me and told me the price is $215 at this time.

He also has installation instructions on-line, if you want to take a look at them. ( http://www.utpr.com/spyderrtinstallation.html ) I have installed three of his backrests on various different type bikes. These instructions are much like the ones for the Goldwing, which was my first install and the easiest. You don't have to remove the upholstery, which makes it much easier. Just make sure of your measurements before you make that cut on the top of the saddle. That's that hardest part, pushing that blade through a perfectly good saddle! :yikes:

I can't say enough good stuff about his products.

My saddle & backrests were waiting for me when I got home from work last night. I have not had a chance to do a full installation, but did set the saddle with driver's backrest on the Spyder & put the passenger backrest in place. Nothing is yet installed, just in place. Because I had a Bible study to get to, I was unable to do anything more, but plan to complete it tonight. I have not sat on it yet because I want to properly install the saddle first, but it sure looks awesome!

As soon as I get some pictures made, I'll post them.
