• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Utopia Back Rest for RT

I had bought several bolts that were a inch longer and used them to bring it in close enough to use the bolts that came with the seat.

The tip from Stevedfive ref the use of longer bolts to get the bolts in the bracket to take and then replace with the original bolts worked for me as well

Have to be careful you don't cross thread the bolts - I tightened by hand
serveral turns and when I was sure the bolts were lined up used the
Spanner/Socket to fully tightened them up

New question on the Utopia. I would really like to lower the rest but unless my calculations are wrong (and that could be), it comes from the factory at it's lowest setting. Looks like if I want lower setting, I will have to drill. Does that sound about right?

Fitted mine yesterday. Taking it out for a test later today. The install took me about 2 hours but I am disabled - I lost my right arm in bike accident 20 odd years ago so it takes me longer to figure out how to make things are done.

ordered

Ordered mine yesterday...delivery expected sept 5th...concerned about how well the piece that sticks to the seat works as well as concern about wether rain/washing seat will stay out of slit cut into seat.... does foam get wet ???
Also waiting for Kewlmetal highway pegs (presently backordered).Have installed the heat shield from spyderpops and also made another one for the bottom opening....was concerned about heat buildup, but, machine actually runs 2 bars lower then before !!!
Looking forward to getting the new mods installed

I would guess you could lower it slightly, but there is only about an inch of clearance between the bottom of the Utopia and the top of the saddle, so you wouldn't gain much.

ulflyer: worst part for me was getting bolt to grab. About two hours. Finally (and I wish I could tell you exactly what I did) one bolt took a hold and then the other. No magic, just perseverance. Hang in there. Hopefully not as long as I did.

I finally used 2 Phillips screw drivers to line up the holes, removed one, and the bolt bit!! It's always the last thing you try HA!

Got my Utopia today

Tomorrow I will bite the bullet and try to remove the seat. Lot of help here on the forums. Wish there was a video on removing the seat on a rt limited.
Got the Spyder a few months ago here in Michigan. 1800 on it so far. No long trips yet. Trailering it to Port Charlotte. Fl in about 7 weeks for the winter. Love the Spyder.
72 yrs and still riding Richard :ohyea:

I had mine installed by a dealer at SITA and love it, I can now lean back and stretch my legs out on the seal floorboards. Wish I had the quick release version installed, so I could remove it to allow the wife to get on and off easier.

The only issue I have is the extra weight when the seat is raised for gas, the seat sometimes comes down on its own now. Minor irritation but it does make long rides better on my back.

First thing is to tape over the two square holes under the saddle near the rear bolts. These are black holes and they attract tools and parts. Odds of ever seeing anything dropped in them again are slim. Then, disconnect the wire connector to the bottom of the rear of the saddle. Then, using a small flat screwdriver, unclip the little metal spring clamp that holds the lift arm head to the bottom of the saddle and then slide the lift arm head off the ball mount on the bottom of the saddle. This clip wraps around the lift arm head. Just slipping the screwdriver underneath it and prying will disconnect the head from the ball. Then, using a ratchet & socket, approach the two rear bolts from above in the space between the rear of the saddle and the passenger backrest. You may have to compress the cushions to get the room you need. Be patient because you'll work that ratchet about a million times before you finally get the bolt unscrewed. The saddle is now ready to be lifted off the Spyder. When lifting it, be careful to not lose the two square nuts the bolts came out of and the two steel grommets the bolts slide through. They will be lose and will try to fall out of their positions at the rear hinge area.

Good luck!
