There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Using the SE5 Spyder RT -S In Traffic

Hi

I now have over 1000 miles on my RT -S and would like to know about the following riding style in Heavy Traffic ref Gearbox/Brake Operation

When I stop in Heavy Traffic e.g. at Traffic lights, Intersections etc
Should I put the Spyder in Netural and use the Foot brake

If it's in Netural should I put my foot on the brake as I select 1st gear -
ready to move off
I have noticed my Spyder does not move forward or jolt unlike some motorycycles i've had when not holding on the brake and selecting 1st gear from netural

Is it better to use the brake anyway just to put less stain on the Geabox as it moves from Netural to 1st

or

Is it ok to leave it in 1st gear and use the Foot brake to stop in sliding back If its a long stop could I use the electronic Parking Brake

Just wondered what others do

Sorry if this has been asked before

Sometimes, if it is a long light or sitting in traffic, I'll put it in neutral and push the e-brake. It works for me.

If I know the light is a long one I will put the :spyder:in N, always have my foot on the brake when stopped, If the light has been red when I approach I leave it in 1st, again brake on

Be Safe

My hand is always on the throttle and the transmission is always in gear while in traffic on my Spyder SE5. This is my personal preference as I like to be prepared to get out of the way quickly if a cager is daydreaming and coming at me from the side or rear. Merely a defensive driving habit of mine that I picked up on many years ago. I am always on the look out for the other vehicles that I share the road with.

:agree:

This tactic saved my A$$ twice in my life and I can only wonder how many injuries I would have if I did not heed to this tactic when my Father taught it to me.

That said... If all cars around me have come to a stop, and I am at a long signal and or on a hill... I select the Parking Brake and put the Spyder in Neutral. Good time to get a drink of water (I have mounted a holder on the dash) or re-adjust my ryding gear...:ohyea:

:agree: and this is what Motorcycle Safety Foundation teaches. Always be prepared for the unexpected!!!

:agree: Leave it in gear foot on brake, When you stop at a light with your car [auto] you don't put it in neutral. Why would anyone with a Spyder or a Bike want to do any thing different?? With a manual trans leave it in first holding in the clutch.

According to the service manual, the centrifugal clutch on the se5 engages at 2000rpm +/-200, so anywhere between 1800 & 2200.
So, when you stop at the lights etc and close the throttle the clutch is disengaged and you are effectively in neutral.
Therefore no negative effects to leaving "in gear".

Vehicle should not move, if on flat surface. If on slope just hold foot brake.

Personally I don't like using parking brake when riding or driving due to inability to react quickly if necessary.

For me, I've never been a fan of holding the clutch on a manual, probably a leftover from heavy clutch pedals and levers on older machines, combined with stretching/breaking cables. With todays hydraulic clutches probably no damage.

Obviously, as stated above, if stopped with nothing behind you I would be very wary and be holding the clutch for in case.
cheers
Pete

:agree: This and flash my brake light a couple times until the cage come to a complete stop.

Using the SE5 Spyder RT-S In Traffic

Drop it to first gear, put foot on the brake, have right hand on the accelerator, and watch the side mirrors for traffic behind me.
