There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. used two-Bros exhaust pipe install

Blue Star

I just installed a used two-Bros exhaust pipe, and Orbit now has a hesitation to her. I only got up to 5 to 10 MPH (maybe 15) in the parking lot so I do not know how she reacts when going faster. In fact, I do not want to ryde her more than I have to in this condition. I put back on the OEM pipe, the hesitation is gone, and she runs like normal. When I put the OEM pipe back on, I checked, and the two-bros pipe would not fit with the OEM gasket installed. Thus I have only one option, use no gasket, or use something else, but what? This leads me to two questions.

1) The guy I bought the pipe from (bought it used) said that I do not need a gasket between the pipe with the curve that connects the exhaust pipe, and what I believe is the Y-pipe (see pic). Yet, there was a gasket of some type when I pulled off the OEM pipe. Should I have put this back on?

2) There was a post that talked about disconnecting the battery when installing a Hindle pipe, but I did not do this. Should I disconnect the battery, and reinstall the exhaust pipe (and the gasket), and then reconnect the battery?

Thanks for any help.pipe 001.jpg

Regarding the gasket, if there was enough clearance between the Two Brothers pipe and the Y pipe on the Spyder, you could have put the gasket back in there. However, if the Two Brothers pipe isn't designed for using the gasket, its pipe is made to fit very snug over the Y pipe and there is no way you could put a gasket in there unless you made a number of relief cuts in the Two Brothers pipe. If you are certain that the rough running condition is due to an exhaust leak at that joint, there are some high temp sealants that people have used to solve that problem.

As to the the battery question, at one time some of us thought that the adaptive fuel mapping could be reset to baseline by disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hour or so. Then when you put the new exhaust on and started the Spyder it would quickly relearn the correct fuel mapping for running with the new pipe. Lamonster later told us that in a conversation with some of the BRP techs, they told him that was not true, the only thing that resets when you remove the battery is your clock. The last time I changed my exhaust from a Hindle to stock and, two years later, from stock to an HMF muffler, I did not disconnect the battery and I'm happy with the way my Spyder runs. It certainly shouldn't hurt anything to disconnect the battery if you wanted to try it. Some people swore that their Spyder ran better with a new exhaust when they did that step. :dontknow:

My son just installed a new two brothers exhaust and innthe box was a tube of black Silicon High temperature sealant/gasket goop. He spread it all over the exhaust manifold from engine then slid the connecting tube on. Sorry about the non tech terms but I am sure you got the point. It would appear that new from the factory the two brothers folks want the system sealed

it sounds like to me that you may need the 02 senser,i put one on the same time i put the new pipe.and mine runs like nas car.never tried it with out the 02.;)

Two Bros on RS

I ran the Two Brothers on my 08RS for 2 years and it performed well, Use the Black high temp sealer at joint and the 02 Modifier,
I also found it performed better with the P1 or P1X tip depending on the sound you prefer...
