Used Hindle Install Question

I picked up a pretty good looking used Hindle. Nothing attachment wise came with it, so am I going to need a new collar, seal or something to make the swap from stock muffler? It doesn't have the slots but I know I have to cut them, and I plan on using copper Permatex. Anything else? Also, what torque did you use on the the Hindle pipe? Oh yeah, someone said, I think, to disconnect the battery's negative side and reattach after swap out and let it idle for 15 minutes. Is that right? If so, what for?

Put my Hindle on after i had the update done and never disconnected the battery. No problems. Noticed the increase in HP right away and what a nice little bark it has when you gear down.

Disconnect battery and install...reconnect and idle. You are changing the mapping of the ECU for the new pipe...no catalytic converter so it's gonna be more open...if you don't let the ECU map the changes, you might get performance issues...let the bike idle for 15 minutes...those are the recommendations for BRP for the pipe...

The idling of the bike after the Hindle install was to season the Hindle pipe. If you bought a used Hindle, you probably don't have to follow those steps as the pipe is already seasoned. My advice, do the battery disconnect and the 15 minute idle if it makes you feel good but I don't think it's necessary.

I guess there is more than one version of the Hindle, mine does not have any sort of gasket.

Yepper... three that I know of:

Original - clamping slots AND needed the slip-joint gasket.

Second - no gasket but clamping slots included (hi-temp RTV recommended)

Third - no gasket but clamping slots NOT included (hi-temp RTV recommended).

Hmmmm...BRP doesn't talk about seasoning the pipe, they mention idling to train the ECU for new exhaust flow...please check the instructions for the hindle...I don't believe the pipe itself has anything to do with the process. Someone please verify as I'm curious...

I wonder if folks like Lamonster, ataDude, etc. who have installed multiple exhausts did a 15 minute idle run after installing each exhaust and why they did or didn't do it?

I, in fact, did the "retraining" after each new system. I believe that, with or without the battery disconnect, the ECU "learns" and adapts the idle mapping in that initial period. It would "learn" it anyway but... just over a longer period of time.

Keep in mind (MHO) that the narrow-band O2 sensor we have really only works at the low end of the RPM range. The ECU mapping... supplemented by the Juice Box in my case... controls most of the range.

I also believe that the silicone coating that I used on the homemade systems were initially baked by the long idle period in such a way as to season them for further, hi-temp, on-the-road baking. I'm not sure about the Hindle... whether they were initially treated at the factory or not. My guess... probably not.

This is JMHO and I'm absolutely certain (as the sun will rise tomorrow) that some will want to take a counter-point.
