• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

UPGRADED SHOCK FOLLOW UP REPORT

If your current springs are at the maximum pre-load, and you feel you still need more, just the springs may help. Another rider has tried just the shock, with the RS springs, but was not satisfied. In my book, the best bet is for the entire assembly. It's a proven combination.
Thanks Scotty
Ill go for the chock/spring combination. I forgot to say i will be riding with 205/45zr16 T-REx front wheels. Can't wait to see how it will ride and how the DPS will react

Good points. You can have your opinion as much as I can. I will add that two RS owners have ryden ours and have or will do this same mod. One couple is in thee 70's the other late 50's.

It is not about ryding it aggressively as you suggest. It is about having a better experience with the Spyder in every situation. The stiffer shocks can be adjusted to a butter smooth ryde but still keep the Nanny from kicking in at point we are not in any danger at all.

In our neck of the woods you cannot go from any part of town to another without hills and a lot of turns. So for those with less turns and hills the chances of them experiencing what many do here is less making the % far less.

To be clear. It is about a pleasurable ryde. Not speed racer stuff. 95% of my time on the Spyder is at or under the speed limits. We have no choice. Traffic dictates this.

Of course not everyone rydes the same. We get that for sure. But I think BRP missed the mark. And it seems others feel the balance and stability improve to a great enough level to spend the $$ and get them on their bikes.

I am certainly in no way suggesting there is a defect or some issue with the RS shocks/springs. I am suggesting that with the 2010 RT springs/Shocks on the RS that the driveability is superior and we now have far more adjustability than we did before. And to me that is of greater value to a wider audience.

Either way. For those looking to improve on it. The mod can be done and I am very happy you and others tried it as you found the need to improve on the factory set. Otherwise I probably would have gotten some Elka's and cried a little on the expense. :roflblack:

Your opinion is wrong...always love saying that even though it doesn't make any sense...

Anyway, I switched over to the RT late last year...huge difference, no question...my point was only that most people who are just riding for general pleasure are fine with stock shocks. I think sometimes on this board (and I am not referring to you) people get into such a mod mode that they effectively put down others who haven't done as much with their bikes. Mods are a personal decision and to each their own. As long as each of us enjoy our personal ride, it's all good!

So, if you don't have the R35 side bags, your bike stinks! :D:roflblack::ohyea:

My money paid for mine. So my opinion is valid. No one else has to agree. Some folks here just like to attack others opinions because they do not match theirs.

It is just like going to a restaurant. Ones' tasty meal is not anothers'. :2thumbs:

Unless you're a shark..then all meals are quite tasty, so they say! :D

Well I've decided shocks first then... see how it goes. Would rather not get both if one will do, more money for other things :)

I remember there was a post somewhere that listed all the part numbers you needed to do this... but I can't find it. Anyone know what I should be looking for?

This is the 2011 part #'s for the RT shocks that my dealer gave me when I ordered. Hope it helps and good luck with your mod.

thx - 2011 RT shocks/Airwave/sway bar

Thanks for all the posts on suspension. Installed the Airwave rear shock and 2011 RT front shocks and springs with the new anti-sway bar and let's just say an Indy car has nothing on our 2010 Spyder RS. Totally awesome would be a a complete understatement. Now drives like it should have straight from the factory. Nice ride even two up and no wheel lifting in turns or wobbling down the road. We road home the other day in 40 kt crosswinds with aplomb. We can take curves so tight we can make the rear wheel slide and do it with confidence. The Airwave just soaks up the bumps and no more sucking the license plate under with the rear wheel (removed sub-fender and installed license relo kit). Airwave is easily adjusted on the fly for a single rider or two up at 650 lbs gross.

I ended up getting the 2011 RT shocks at the same servicing as adding the sway bar. The tech cranked them all the way up. He test rode it, and thought it was absolutely tops!

Now I have ryded alone and two up with the new mods. These modifications are the most bang for the buck I can think of!! The Spyder handles like a whole new beast. Highway ryding is solid and not nerve wracking like it was. Two up, I can hardly tell my hubby at 200 + pounds is back there!! It's fantastic now. I am so glad I got the shocks in addition to the sway bar. The Spyder is the BOMB now!!!!!nojoke

I just installed the Evo sway bar last night. I installed the RT shocks and spings last wek and they made a huge difference. I am sure the sway bar is a good buy but as of yet I can not tell the difference over the Stock sway bar and RT shocks. I am very happy with the RT shocks. They are a must. Has anyone else upgraded in this order and seen an improvement with the EVOlution Sway Bar?

:chat:

I did this upgrade based on this thread and I am not disappointed. :ohyea::2thumbs:

2011 rt shocks

My dealer just told me $425.00 per shock for the 2011 RT:spyder2: front..I think Im gonna have to live with stock.

Your dealer is making HUUUUUUUUUGE $$$$ off of you. Many of us have paid $250-300 for the complete set. This includes every single part to do a simple swap out of the old for new...

You need a different dealer for parts...

I agree. I was on the $200.00 side of the equation. $425.00 is way too high. So is the dealer if he thinks he is gonna get that price!

If someone is going to switch from the RS shocks to the RT shocks is there a difference between the 2010 RT shocks and the 2011 RT shocks? I've noticed some people talking about the 2010 shocks and some people talking about the 2011 shocks. I'm definitely planning on upgrading my 2008 RS shocks but will not be able to afford any aftermarket models.

Thanks!!
Jeff

I went with the 2011 RT shocks. Couldn't be happier! And, I'd have to look up my paperwork. But I did certainly not pay over $400 apiece for them!!! I think somewhere around $300 plus installation. I was fine with what was estimated as far as costs. Dealer did it all.
