Updated Info on RT/RS SE5 clutch "fix" campaign

Well, just called my dealer to schedule clutch recall fix since BRP called me personally yesterday and said they had verified with the dealer that the fix kit was there. Well, guess what? BRP forgot to include certain essential components....so back to the waiting game...and dealer said they are out of office until 7/6...so wasn't sure what the BRP response would be...so back to the hurry up and wait mode....:dontknow: what else to say!!

It wouldn't surprise me that "certain essential components" were left out of all the fix kits. My dealer called me this afternoon and said the fix kit had arrived as promised last week by BRP, but it was not complete. The recall was for about 1,200 units but according to my warranty dealer BRP stated they received 1,800 repair kits last week. I guess that is how they got the extra 600 repair kits. Short the 1,200 kits. Looks like another 2 or 3 weeks of no riding while the rest of the components are shipped.:(

For those that have had this Clutch Recall completed... Does this repair also eliminate the hesitation from first to second that we are experiencing off and on? And what about the "Clunking" when either going into first or reverse from neutral? Thanks!!! Just curious.. Nothing more...

I just got my RTS back after clutch was repaired a couple weeks ago. It shifts soooo smoothly now. I don't even notice going from 1st to second.

I am pretty sure the "clunk" is still there going to 1st or Reverse from Neutral. ( I was having issues getting it to GO into Neutral from 1st, so I read the manual and you have to downshift SOFTLY!!!) User error:D

Not sure about the gas mileage, either. My gauge is still bouncing after they replaced the fuel pump and sending unit. I understand it just needs the new gauge, itself, but I am not about to take it in again and have to wait, after I waited 7 weeks to get it back NOW! I only have about 300 miles, so I will wait to address it at the 600 mile checkup.

Parts Backorder

Still waiting for clutch re-call back-ordered parts. It's been about three weeks. Anyone have an update as to when dealers will be receiving them? :helpsmilie:

Clutch

Paulsons Motorsports in Lacy Wa. :firstplace: .. Received parts in on wed.the 30th. Has completed three as of this past Tuesday including mine. Jason the service Manager is on top of things and does an excellent job. I am a very " HAPPY CAMPER " . NO real issues with the 2009 SE5, or the 2010 RTSE5.

Anyone else still waiting for the backordered parts to complete the repair? Thursday will be 30 days. The way I read the Virginia lemon law they will have an additional 15 days to complete the repair after receipt of a demand letter.

Yes.. We are... And BRP started very good communications with us last Monday. No idea where we go from here, but they are trying to help :thumbup:

Still Waiting

I call every Tuesday a.m. and check to see if parts for recall fix have arrived. If anything changes will let you know. Heck have forgotten how long I have been calling!!!!! Read LONG TIME...so must be getting closer to fix happening...wouldn't you thunk!!!

Special tools needed for recall

Here's an excerpt from the e-mail sent by the service desk at my dealer yesterday:

-- Yes the tools came in on Saturday that were supposed to. The two tools that we received were the clutch holder and the crank holder. The new tools that we are waiting on, are for the clutch adjustment. Can-am noted in the bulletin that sometimes when the clutch is reinstalled as per the recall, the clutch height changes, these tools are to measure and make the necessary adjustments. --

I don't know the truth of it. Could just be Page 117 out of the Manual of Excuses for Stalling. Perhaps those of you still waiting on parts might want to run this by your dealers just in case the tools are needed.

Spyder-free for 49 days and counting...

Dealer just called to reschedule my recall update. Parts are on backorder. UGH! No choice but to wait. At least it's driveable.

Just got back from bringing the Spyder to the dealer for the my second scheduled date for the recall. They had removed me from their schedule. Unfortunately they forgot to notify me! They don't have the parts. Guess I'm now an official member of the "On perpetual hold" owner's group.

I am a naturally "Cup half full" kind of fella and continue to have faith. My wife and I had just about lost it until they finally contacted us.

This has to be bugging BRP as much as it is us. This kind of press, even if it is from the minority, can have long term negative effects if this goes to much longer. I actually feel sorry for the "Good" dealers in this situation.

There is almost no "Winning" position for them.

I am worried this could lead to a few less dealers from this frustration :yikes:. It is one thing to be a company like Honda or even Harley, that have a plethora of Bike Models to "Leverage" during a challenging time... BRP has two (Meaning RT & RS)...

I for one cannot not wait for the day I get to update my thread for the better and finally put miles on these babies!:spyder2::yes:

Mine has been in the shop for 28 consecutive days now. I have my DEMAND letter typed and ready to send overnight to BRP for receipt by them on Friday. That puts them on notice they have 15 days to complete repairs. It also puts them on notice that any more down time in the next 18 months cannot be more than the 15 days specified in the DEMAND letter or by Virginia law it is a lemon.

Steamed in San Diego

One month to the day and 200 miles on the odometer and I believe I have been bitten by the clutch problem. Up to this point, I was able to manually down-shift from 2nd to 1st without any problems with it stalling, that is until Monday. After a nice ride down the coast and stopping for lunch, I noticed a clicking sound as I was down-shifting from 2nd to 1st. After that, I was unable to keep it from stalling in 1st gear. The only thing I could do, while limping home, was throttle up and keep my foot on the brake at each stop. I also could not get above 3500 to 3800 RPM and could not get above 35 to 40 mph.

Does this sound like the issues that have been identified with the clutch re-call, or have I encountered a new issue as well? It's been three weeks since I called my dealer with the re-call info I learned from this site. I have not yet been offically notified by BRP (Unsat).

It sounds like you have a different problem. At least not what I was experiencing with the clutch difficulty. I had no problem with normal riding and getting up to 6 or 7,000 RPM and 70-75 mph. Mine was going from 2nd to 1st then coming to a complete stop. it would stall out then stay in 1st gear. Would not go into neutral so when I tried to start it, it would lunge forward then stall again. Hope you get yours fixed faster than I am. 28 days and counting.

Dealer called to report parts are in. Scheduled for Tuesday 7/13. I asked if mine would be the first one they did and he indicated I am....nervous!!!

Limp Mode

Due to problems with the clutch, my RT apparently went into the Limp Mode. Does it stay in this mode after starting the next time?

Still Waiting

Cannot believe it...yea I can...life happens. Was told last week that all parts were in for clutch fix..called today to schedule appt. with service dept. Was told NO do not have parts..suppose to be shipped 7/13 or 7/14..and this is after BRP said they had shipped them all and confirmed arrived at dealer...dealer says NO...BRP says whoops yep left some out...then BRP says in 2nd message..we got it right this time...whoops dealer says...BS...so just fired off another email to Carlo and crew...like that is going to accomplish anything other than relieve my pressure point--if I blow a gasket then both the Spyder and I will be in the shop...not a good idea...so going Spyder Ryding anyway...:dontknow:

I had gotten a call from the GM of my dealer just to check and see how things were going. Apparently, they are making some changes to improve this branch. So I stopped in to see if the parts were in. Yep, all but the washers that aren't needed. But I figure there is a liability problem if they do the rebuild without the new washers, so I didn't say anything. Too bad, the past week has been perfect weather for repairing a bike.
