• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Update on narrowing down my CCW choice...

Well I went shopping today, and I had a hard time choosing between the S&W M&P shield in .40cal, or the Kimber solo carry in 9mm.
Both fit my hand very well, with a slight edge to the M&P because of the slightly larger frame. Kimber had a little better trigger.
Both are very nice pistols, and would be great CCW's.

Specs, Kimber: weight 17oz, height 3.9", length 5.5", width 1.14"
S&W: weight 19oz, height 4.6", length 6.1", width 9.5. Now S&W width is listed as "frame width", which is not as wide as the grip, so kinda miss leading.

So after much deliberation, I came to the only logical decision any sane guy would come too. I got both.

I figured the Kimber will be my carry choice when dressed in my "Sunday's best", which isn't often:roflblack::roflblack:.

Unfortunately, I wont be able to pick them up till the county clerk does the paperwork, and that can take a week or more..:banghead::banghead:

Both reasonable choices. The best advice is to practice with both enough to make you feel confident they will go bang every time if you're going to place your life in its hands.

That seems so weird to me. If you lived here, you would make your selection(s), fill out the paperwork, wait maybe two or three minutes for the background check and go home with your purchases. What the heck does the county clerk have to do with it? :dontknow: I'm so glad I live in Texas!!

BEST CHOICE

The .40 cal packs almost twice the punch of the 9 mm JMHO........Mike :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:..........................My motto has always been " I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6 "

had a wooden plack with this saying hanging on a tree at our seasonal campground site. I guess I ticked someone off, 'cause the management made me take it down. They also reminded me that there is a strict no firearm policy in this campground. Glad they didn't frisk me:roflblack:

Have you owned a Kimber or fired it before buying? Because your approval process is so long I figured I'd give you a 3rd parties perspective on the Solo.

In any case, whatever you end up carrying, I'll be sure not to cut you off when I head up to SpyderQuest!!

Yes, I have shot many Kimbers. Most have been full size 1911 .45 cal, and some ultra carry II's. I have shot a few rounds from a solo, and it was a huge improvement over the Kel-tec P11 9mm I have. Although almost anything would be a improvement over the Kel-tec.

That's what I've heard... and I was really interested in the Kel-Tec KSG for a while, but decided to go with a Beretta Tactical shotgun instead! Too many reports of FTL on the Kel-Tec and nothing but praise for the Beretta!!

Have fun at the range!!

Just be glad you are not in California

we can only buy one handgun per 30 day period. Also it must be on the DOJ approved list.
My sons and I all love our kimber 1911s. I must say that I have S&W 1911 that is VERY accurate and will feed an empty shell! (my CZ 97 has problems with hollow points)

New CCW choice for me

Wife and I picked up a Ruger LCP with the Viridian green laser sight.... 380ACP..... SWEET little gun..... front pocket carry, Laser comes on when you pull it out of the holster..... instant target acquisition.

We can add as many as we want at one time. The person at the clerk's office that handles the amendments has to submit all paperwork to the judge for approval. My paperwork could sit on the clerk's or judges desk for weeks. :banghead::banghead:

Who's your Judge up there?
Move down by us; we've got one here that's REAL gun-friendly! :2thumbs:
He'll even make the call himself, to tell you that everything has been approved and signed... often in just two days.

I've got judge McGrath. I belive theres a few. I guess this is a new policy for Rensselaer County. We used to make a apt, and get our pistols added then. Mite have to wait a day or too for the apt, but thats it. From what I'm hearing, someone wasn't to pleased about having to make an apt, and caused a major stink. Tried to get the gal who handles the pistol permits fired. So now we have to submit everything and wait.

In the meantime, I've been researching IWB holsters. The choices are endless
