In an earlier thread called "Carlo Responds" I said the following:
"Carlo called today in response to my inquiry regarding the change in part numbers for the rear wheel bearings. My curiosity on this subject is probably not shared by any other living person. I wanted to know what prompted the change. Carlo’s answer was that he did not know. However, he did say the specifications were the same, the vendor was the same, and “yes” they are still made in China. I have ordered a set of the “new bearings” which should arrive shortly. I will report on this at a later date."
The new bearings arrived today. Carlo was right - He did not know. The correct answer is - they are no longer made in China. :2thumbs:
The part number for the double wide bearing in the sprocket has not changed between model years 2008 and 2008. It is manufactured in the USA. This is true for both model years.
The part number for the two single row bearings in the rear wheel is different for the 2009 model year Spyder than it was for the 2008 model year. The 2008 model year bearing is made in China. The 2009 model year bearing is made in the USA.
Spyder#1 had two bearings made in China and one bearing made in the USA. Spyder#2 has three bearings made in the USA.
The last time I looked, BRP had not yet superseded the 2008 model year part number, They were both active part numbers. Physically, they are interchangeable. If you are going to replace your wheel bearings, order the part number for the 2009 model year Spyder - 293350067.
