• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Ultimate Dealer GREED!

What would you consider an appropriate charge for a full service shop to charge? I will admit $400 is more than we charge but I am willing to bet the dealer's labor rate is higher than mine as well. And when you answer, tell us how you come up with that cost.

Retail on the BRP Oil Change kit is now $209.99 and it's 1.5 hrs labor no matter how you slice it to do the full job. Yes, bulk oil and parts are a bit cheaper, but let's see your numbers.

I'm looking at the full BRP kit sitting in my Amazon cart right now.

BRP 9779484 Spyder 5W-40 Full Synthetic Oil Change Kit Rotax 1330 Engine $140 (free shipping), $127 at Partzilla ($15 for shipping).

I think the BRP dealers are likely obligated under contract to sell these things at MSRP when performing a service? Perhaps the dealer isn't completely to blame here.

Regarding Amazon and Partzilla, who knows what price they get the oil change kits from BRP? I suspect they aren't selling them at full retail MSRP either, their margins are probably thinner but their volumes are higher.

My dealer did warn me when buying my new Spyder this year that the first 3,000 mile service was going to be about $600. This was relatively normal for my Triumph and BMW motorcycles at their first services too.

My Range Rover dealer charges me about $350 for an oil change between actual service intervals, and I suspect their actual labor time is a bit less than BRP's as it's not a dry sump engine and therefore less hassle, it just takes a bit more oil.

Of course, if the dealer does everything they say they should do at that first service it's one thing, but if they just do an oil change and call it good, that's another thing entirely.

Well let me put it this way. I got lazy and took my RT into the dealer. New service writer from the last time I was there. Said I need the annual service done. The service manger showed me check off list that they do when they do the annual service, check just about everything on the bike. Went to pick it up and just about had a heart attack, bill came to $603.68
Oil change kit $209.99
Magnetic drain plug $23.74 replaced because the old one was "showing wear and socket would not fit tight" Note they did an oil change last year when it was in to have waterpump replaced/fixed and new coolant tank total cost was little over $300. (extended warranty)
Labor $294.00 2.1hrs
Shop supplies, tax, credit card surcharge $75.95

Needles to say I'm doing my own oil changes from now on and I'm a spry 85. Now I'm not sure if I should have said I don't need the inspections but thought it was a no cost service.....stupid me.
They should have given you a price before you had the work done. If they don't, it's always a good idea to ask.
