Two wheels - not just yet.... at least with this HD bike

So I'm gonna wait.

Went to the dealer today to do some more poking around on the Forty-Eight. Was talking to Roaddog the other night and he told me his friend was gonna get one and he test rode one and didn't like it. Now this guy is very picky. So I went down there - sat on it again. Seat sucked but that's no biggie, just swap out seats. Handlebars - drag style - I wanted mini apes - no biggie, swap that out. BUT the forward controls were way too forward. My legs were straight out and I could work them but not in a safe way when it would come to a panic stop and needing to use that foot brake. HDX met me down there and the guys were talking - suggesting ways to change the control w/ different pegs. Then I sat on the Nightster and I HATE mid mount pegs. Yuck. Sat on the Fatboy and I loved it but I'm not spending close to $20K on another two wheeler. The more I thought about it the more I said, why should I spend $$$ on a bike that will have to have certain parts refabbed. I figure HD gets the word on the 2011 bikes end of July. Can Am gets the word on 2011 bikes this summer, right? So why not wait for that news, see what's new if there will be anything I like. Also if there isn't, that will make the 2010's of anything cheaper. HDX said to ryde this for one more season, by February the dealers will be hungry and I can pick up a leftover if I so choose. OR I might have enough saved up by then to buy a used two wheeler - like someone posted on here. I am gonna go down to Libby's Yamaha on Saturday - saw some used ones for like $3K. I'm sure there would be some in the winter. So maybe I can keep this and have two wheels also. Only thing, if I get a used something or another, I'll have to let HDX paint it flat black and tape up the pipes and make a rat trap out of it. :2thumbs: Only thing he can't do is to put way high stupid apes where I can't reach - just mini ones!

BRP ARE YOU READING THIS - PLEASE MAKE A GS MODEL WITH A FAIRING AND STEREO! NO BAGS - STILL SPORTY LOOKIN BUT ADD SOME TUNES WILL YA

Yup - seems like our local one is starving. Problem is, I like one of the sales guys there - we've been friends with him for a long time but the place has sh*t the bed - everyone we know got canned, except for him when the new owner took over. So there's another place but it's a bit further - that is where Roaddog got his trike - they have good deals there.

So maybe they will be starving some more come February.

DLTang - you were interested in two wheels a few months back - what were you looking at and are you holding off or did you find something?

Smart decision to wait! In Late-Oct and Nov I think you get the best deal because they want cash flow for the winter.
No sense selling the :spyder2:at a Big depreciation Loss and then buying a new 2 wheeler and immediately losing 25-30 percent of its value when you walk out the door?:yikes:

And maybe I can keep it and just go w/ a used 2 wheeler. That way I can have the best of both worlds :)

Current issue of Motorcycle Cruiser arrived today and they echo some of the criticisms of the HD 48. Harsh ride, stretched out position, wind blast, small tank. Great look that compromises ride and comfort.

Talking w/ a friend right now who has a hardtail (OLD) he might wanna sell - I'm gonna go test ride it. I'd love an old bike but it wouldn't be for long hauls. Bar hopper - well I wouldn't go drink and ride this thing but you get the drift - chopper lookin thang. All black, rigid sporty - very low, mini apes. He's got a few bikes. He's got this really cool antique roadking that I could never ride but it's OLD - he calls her Old Rosie cuz she is the color of a rose - pretty much everything original on it. Very cool. HDX knows this bike I'm interested in, he would love to have it as a rat trap. We'd have to share it.... LOL! I'm sure I'd come home and find it missing cuz he'd be on it all the time.

Better renew your pain pill prescription. Those rigid frames are hard on the body...even if they are the old ones with the sprung seats. Bar hopper or not, even a short ride on the wrong bike can make you hurt for days. Cool isn't everything, at some point comfort, reliability, and ride-ability have to come into play.

Well I just talked to him - possible test ride on Sunday. He wants too much though. $4K - and we think that is too much. But I'll test ride it for fun anyway! You can pick up a used honda or a yammie that's much newer in mint condition for that price. I do like the cool factor though. Wish I could find something cheap, used, paint it flat black, tape up the pipes, mini apes, black everything out and make a rat trap out of it. That seems to be my quest at the moment! :2thumbs:

Hey Kim, getting two wheels in addition to the spyder was dependent on getting a new job (better paying). Unfortunately, that didn't pan out. Anyway, we do have other responsibilities right now and I have time. I am sure down the road, I will have a nice two wheeler parked next to the spyder for something different. Good luck to you as well.

IMHO, get a Honda Shadow used...will run you a few thousand and it's a nice bike...comfortable and decent size engine. Also, it's a Honda, so you know it'll last forever!
