Turbocharged Spyder?

Just to play devil's advocate here...

What's the point of so much hp? Where are you going to ride the bike 200mph unless you're on a track???...and even then, you're overcoming the VSC system and risking your life...

I think 0-60 in 4.3 or 4.5 seconds is fast enough...as others have said, if you want a sport bike, you can go faster...

When on the road, all bikes are equal...there's a speed limit and other vehicles to consider...

As is the case with cars, more hp is a pride and ego thing...however, this is ridiculous...where the heck are you going to drive a car 'that' fast?...going to the supermarket, to the gym, to Starbucks?

IMHO, the Spyder has enough pep and I wouldn't waste thousands of dollars trying to add more hp which I can't do anything with anyway...

Agree, disagree...so be it...money can be much better spent, especially in the economic state we're in now...

I agree with you on this one, BoneCrusher. I have seen that most of the responses here with regard to increased horsepower were from guys who love driving in the fast lane. Being a lady rider, I love speed as well. However, what is the practicality of doing it when you still have to abide to the speed limit? And what is the practicality of it, if it were void your warranty and burn your engine? BRP made the Spyder with certain limitations. But, then again, the Spyder has great features and respectable speed compared to some cruiser bikes. The Spyder is not meant for racing.. just my 2 cents.

:yikes: SPEED LIMITS????? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING SPEEDLIMITS!!!!!!!!!

:D

How To Get Out Of A Traffic Ticket!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A police officer pulls a guy over for speeding and has the following exchange:

Officer: May I see your driver's license?
Driver: I don't have one. I had it suspended when I got my 5th DUI.

Officer: May I see the owner's card for this vehicle?
Driver: It's not my car. I stole it.

Officer: The car is stolen?
Driver: That's right. But come to think of it, I think I saw the owner's card in the glove box when I was putting my gun in there.

Officer: There's a gun in the glove box?
Driver: Yes sir. That's where I put it after I shot and killed the woman who owns this car and stuffed her in the trunk.

Officer: There's a BODY in the TRUNK?!?!?
Driver: Yes, sir.

Hearing this, the officer immediately called his captain. The car was quickly surrounded by police, and the captain approached the driver to handle the tense situation:

Captain: Sir, can I see your license?
Driver: Sure. Here it is.

It was valid.

Captain: Who's car is this?
Driver: It's mine, officer. Here's the owner's card.

The driver owned the car.

Captain: Could you slowly open your glove box so I can see if there's a gun in it?
Driver: Yes, sir, but there's no gun in it.

Sure enough, there was nothing in the glove box.

Captain: Would you mind opening your trunk? I was told you said there's a body in it.
Driver: No problem.

Trunk is opened; no body.

Captain: I don't understand it. The officer who stopped you said you told him you didn't have a license, stole the car, had a gun in the glovebox, and that there was a dead body in the trunk.

Driver: Yeah, I'll bet the lying s.o.b. told you I was speeding, too!:D

Makes you wonder if he actually has one and rides it!:dontknow:

I don't know why I'm wasting my time with this thread, but whatever...gives me a good break from doing work...I've treated many injuries due to excessive speed...speed on a motorcycle is the antithesis of safety...

As far as questioning if I have a Spyder...boy, you're good at putting one and one together...my avatar is of what....? I've been buying tons of modifications for the bike to do what...leave them in a box in the garage?

Sure, this is my first bike...what difference does that make? Oh, I get it...the more bikes I've owned, the faster I want to go...that makes a lot of sense...such logic in that. But then again, not much sense goes into trying to break the land speed barrier on your Spyder or whatever motorcyle you ride. What's the life expectancy of a sports bike owner? What's that due to? What percentage of bikers get injured/die due to single rider accidents? Do you not think that speed plays into the equation? I guess in your case it doesn't...

Look, when you ride a bike, you take your life into not only your hands, but into others as well...having a sense of responsibility on the road whether there is traffic or not is imperative. The Spyder is a fast bike...period. The testosterone driven 'more, more, more' will ultimately lead to an increased likelihood of injury/death.

We all like speed...sure, there's a rush to moving fast....no problem with that...if you really want to go fast, go get a jet plane. If you want a motorcycle to go over 200 mph for whatever reason, please don't use my tax dollars to clean you up off the street.

FACT

People who don't mod will never understand people who do.
People who don't want to go fast will never understand people who do.
People who debate this kind of thing on messages boards will never change anyone else mind so why bother?

Like the old saying goes
"If I have to explain it to you, you wouldn't understand anyway"

Lamonster,

For the record...

I LOVE modifications (to a point)
I don't drive 10mph on a 65mph highway...responsible speed is fine.
I just don't like to see the statistics of motorcyle riders getting killed...things can be done to reduce the likelihood yet many disregard this...instead of people trying to go 200mph on a bike, perhaps it'd be better to read a book, take a class, donate time (instead of organs), etc...
Enuf said! I won't write more here...

Well, I have been staying out of the fray here. I certainly don't want to add to the fireworks. I think good points are being made on both sides. As Lamonster said, people who don't do mods will never understand those that do. I'd like to remind you that it works both ways. Some people have no need for more.

I'd like to come to Bone Crusher's defense here for a second if I might. First let me say that I rode fuel bikes in the sixties and seventies, at record speeds. I fell off a couple of times over 150 mph, and didn't find it devastating or odd. I also drove many types of dragsters, running 200 mph, with the motor out front, when that was all the beasts would manage...if they didn't explode or catch on fire. For a brief moment in the old days I became the fastest person on earth on a snowmobile. I find speed to be fun, and I am very comfortable with it. On the other hand, I drive and ride near the speed limit, and always have. I find no need for more, at least not in a public place. 1,000 cc is plenty for me, more than I need. My 750 cc and 650 cc vintage bikes fulfill my needs.

The point is that what drives each of us is different. It is alright to question why anyone needs "More power!" If you haven't felt the desire, you are certainly curious as to what drives the fever. It is also alright to feel the need for bigger and faster, if that is what floats your boat. Keeping it safe for yourself and others is a valid concern. We all need to respect the others' positions, and try our best to explain what drives us, without getting snippy. Those that ask the questions need to realize that they may never understand the answers to the questions they have asked. Ask, explain, listen, learn, but let's try not to throw stones.

Amen Scotty! Let's not judge others. If you're happy with the way you're spyder runs that's great but don't judge me because I want to change mine.
For the record, more horsepower for me is acceleration. I haven't had mine over 80 mph but the roads I ride on have hairpin turns and steep inclines that, for me, require alot of horsepower for good acceleration. I might have responded to Bone Crushers comments out of haste because I was offended that he portrayed his opinion as the only one that mattered.

If it weren't for people wanting to change things and wanting things different we wouldn't have the spyder to begn with! Thankyou to all of those who think out of the box.
