• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

TURBO OWNERS: WATCH YOUR AIR FILTER

Rode my bike 50 miles on the turnpike to the dealer to get some electrical problems checked out and apparently between here and there the turbo filter fell off. Misunderstood and thought they had lost my Outerwears cover but nope its the whole unit. :gaah:

Its only held on by a band clamp so I doubt I am the only one this has happened too. There is a lot of road construction here. Always. So I can only surmise a rock or bump tossed it off. I left it at the dealer because we both agreed that riding it with any dirt and rocks coming into it was a bad idea.

Hope to get a replacement Monday when I call Hi Performance but thought any turbo owner should be aware that this is probably a weak link in the otherwise good design.

This happenns to many K&N kits as well. It's a cheap way to attach a very expensive filter and I don't understand why they have not figured that out yet. Sorry to hear it hands. I was calling you Doc, but obviously there is already a Doc!! :D

Anyway, sorry it happened. Hope you get back on the road soon. BTW, did they find the cause of the electrical problem?

Mine stays on the garrett turbo on the bike good with just the clamp, but many others have drilled 3 small holes at 12, 4 and 8 o'clock positions thru the clamp, filter and the lip of the turbo and installed small sheet metal screws. This has held up to 217 mph on the bikes, so it should work on the spyder setup as well.

I'd personally use fine-thread machine screws (more threads to hold), into the turbo neck. Don't forget the Loctite. Better yet, use small bolts with safety wire tabs, and safety wire the bolts to each other.

Now you are talking! That rascal won't get away again if you do that!

Getting a new filter sent. Apparently they redesigned the housing with a ridge and they are sending me that to pop on.

I found a K&N filter part number

RU-5163

And a cover

RU-5163DK
That fits the aerocharger
The initial fit is loose but the base is pliable enough that after tightening the band clamp it stays on good and tight
It's larger than the one they ship but still fits well in the space

The one they ship with the turbo is a little undersized and wants to slip off

I'm gonna pick up a t bolt clamp for it too Worm screw clamps are very unreliable

Metal tape found in muffler/exhaust repair and other areas of an autoparts store makes a good shim. Heat wise, I had to shim my slip joint gasket when I made my exhaust tip.

yep  T-Bolt clamps are the way to go. when I had a 300 hp Hayabusa turbo I attached the KN Filter with the TBOLT instead. you can crank down on them. the worm screw clamps suck for anything serious. you just can get the same tightness as a T-Clamp... plus the tclamps dont ruin your rubber gasket by digging into it. they are smooth banded.

Drilling the holes is easy. Just get out your Black and Decker 1" (one inch) portable drill and chuck a 5/32" drill bit in it and you'll drill all the holes you want.

They weren't too hot on the idea of anyone drilling holes.

The Outerwear filter cover with the custom setup charge was $24 I believe. Have to check my invoice.

Also Arthur....

Thinking of buying a house soon in the Colonial Highlands. Nice to know there is a Spyder owner a couple hours away. LOL
