• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Trouble Shooting with th Power Probe 3

I've mention this tool before and how cool I thought it was but last night I got to put it to the test and I'm so excited about how it helped diagnose my problem that I decided to shoot a little video showing why it so cool. :doorag:
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?34056-Power-Probe-3

I'm testing a prototype strobe unit for the brake lights and everything worked as it should on one side but it was causing the other side to go nuts. While I was trouble shooting the problem I found another problem I didn't know I had and thought for sure when I fixed it that would fix my brake light problem. Unfortunately it didn't fix my issue but at least now my other unknown issue is fixed.

I called up the guy who built this unit and we start step by step trying to figure out what was going on. There was no good reason why it shouldn't work right and why it was making everything else go crazy. As you know the Spyder is not happy with some aftermarket lighting products but even taking the strobe out of the system and just having the jumper in place I had a problem. It was time to break out the Power Probe 3.

On the RT you have a always hot cigarette plug inside the rear trunk. I used this to power up the Power Probe 3. This gives me a good ground and good power for testing. I was able to probe my brake light to make sure it was getting power and I was able to test for good ground as you'll see in the video. I'm sure there are other ways to do a test like this but I can't think of a better tool to do it with. Watch the video and you'll see what I'm talking about. :doorag:

Very nice the way that works.

The (light) module that you mentioned, is that something that one of the existing vendors will be putting out?

Yes, I'm pretty sure they will be releasing it soon. It has 10 different setting for the brake light, it's pretty cool. I'll post something when they do.:doorag:

Good to know..!!

Thanks for this most informative video. Will look into getting one puts a lot of tools into one unit..

Power Probe III Kit

Recently had a chance to start using the Power Probe tool I ordered after seeing Lamont's video... What a cool device! It puts the voltmeter, a probe, & a power source all together in a way that makes testing and diagnosis super easy. It even has 2 bright LEDs next to the probe to light up the work area.

I lucked up and got the full package with extra probes, attachments, & case on a nice deal on eBay. I can remember a lot of problems that could have been solved with far less pain with this tool in hand!

Glad you like it Jack, I love mine. As far as "less pain" goes, just don't poke yourself with that probe, that sucker is sharp!:yikes:nojoke
