There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Trickle Charge question

I had a BMW 1200 LT with a BMW trickle charger. With that set-up I could plug the charger into any of the 12V outlets that were on the bike to charge the battery.

On my 2011 RT Limited, can I do that same using the 12V socket in the rear trunk?
or is that going to be a problem with the electrical system on this bike. I have heard it is very sensitive and don't want to mess it up.

Thanks

Hokiev.

Thanks for the info Bob, I did not know I could charge it from the port. I had mine hooked up to the battery.

I learn something new everyday here.

Ditto on my RT-S. Works great and should be on all vehicles, two, three or four wheels should have it.

Hey, could I charge my pick up truck battery through it's cigarette lighter outlet? I think I will try it...

p.s. Please pay no attention to any explosion you may hear from South Texas....:ohyea: :roflblack:

:spyder2:

battery tender... JUMP ON IT!!!! I've used one on two H-Ds, one Suzuki, one Kawasaki and now the Sypder. one of the best tools I've ever purchased.

interesting... on my 09 RS the frunk 12V outlet is switched with the ignition/acc. So it's disconnected when the key is off. Can't see how you could charge it through there if it's disconnected :dontknow:

I know I wouldn't want it always on or my GPS and other accessories hooked there would stay on and drain the battery when I stopped.

I'm guessing the rear 12V on the RT is always on then?

Battery Charging

Battery Tender is the way to go. Install a pigtail attached to the battery terminals and when done riding and parked at home plug it in. I do this unless I'm riding again the next day. It will keep the battery always topped off and extend the life. When storing for winter or not using for a week or so the tender should be used. This proceedure was always used on my Harley and I never had a moments worry about the battery.

The RS has a 3 amp accessory circuit, which is switched. There is a 3 amp unswitched accessory circuit available, but that connector is typically not used. The RT has a 10 amp unswitched accessory circuit feeding the plug in the rear trunk.

BATTERY TENDERS

I HAVE USED "BATTERY TENDERS 750MA. CHARGER FOR YEARS. THEY WORK BEAUTIFULLY. I HAVE ONE ON MY 2011 RTS/SE5 AND MY 2009 SUZUKI BURGMAN 650 SCOOTER. I USE THEM IN MY GARAGE WHEN I RETURN HOME WITH THE BIKES TO KEEP THEM CHARGED 24/7/365.
