Hard as I looked, I couldn't find the instructions to mount my (used) BRP hitch. 8LF was kind enough to copy his & send me a copy, so I thought I would post it here, but, even as a reduced pdf file, it's too big. So, send me a PM with your E-mail address, and I'll send you a copy. (Or if Lamont let's me know how to post the 4.3G file, I'll do that instead....)

I also found a nice (SMALL) LED light, that was mounted on a headband, and had a hinge at Batteries Plus for $10. I tossed the band and screwed it into the top of the rear trunk. It uses one AAA battery, and has two intensity settings. It's perfect for that use, or providing light for my SO to do her hair (etc) when she takes her helmet off.

For those interested in doing this on your own:

1. Don't forget to remove the cotter pin in the rear axel nut - BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE!!!! Otherwise, I assure you, you will fully exercise your entire foul language vocabulary... probably several times....

2. Forget 2 hours for the electrical installation. Plan to waste an entire Saturday.... unless you have undressed the back half of your RT at least once before....

So how true is it that once installed, the trailer hitch can be easily removed for non-trailer travel?

The BRP hitch itself is easily removed. Pull the cinch pin, take out the long "bolt", then pull the hitch off the swingarm and install a new cotter pin in the axle. It is not really necessary to remove it, though...I leave mine on all the time. It is not in the way at all.

I'm getting ready to purchase a hitch and after looking at some at a BRP demo area in Arkansas last summer, I'm wondering if (prior to mounting it), I should have it powder coated. All of the units at that demo were rusted and really looked bad. Assume BRP didn't make them (like lots of their parts) and whoever did, didn't apply much of a paint job. THOUGHTS???

It might be difficult. The clearance to the swingarm is tight, and there are pads on the hitch to protect the swingarm. Those might interfere with the powdercoating, and would have to be masked or removed. I didn't have any rust on mine when it was turned over to the dealer, but I can't say the same for the bolt. I had to get at that one several times to clean it up. The plating is paper thin.
