• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

trailer hitch

We went with something similar with our Bushtec hitch. But there are many owners here that have swingarm hitches without any issues. I do believe the new RT has it's hitch on the swingarm for the BRP trailer.

Weren't you considering ordering the BRP hitch for yours?

While there are other swingarm mounted hitches, the BRP one is unique in it's design - has a dampening system to alleviate excess stress on the swingarm, bearings, etc.

If I were looking at hitches, the BRP one would be on the top of the list, with the Bushtec next.

trailer hitch?

The MMG Reese style hitch is the same as the factory one except for the adjustability of the MMG. My trailer does not sit level behind my RTS and there isn't any adjustability on ball height on the factory hitch. With the Reese style you have a choice of several ball height adjustments.

The MMG unit doesn't have the dampening system that the BRP unit does.

We are keeping the Bustec hitch and changing out the wiring and adding a ball. Selling the locking pin with the trailer to BMWGene.

I have both hitches. When they are laying on the floor side by side they are identical except for where the two pieces that make up the side rail. BRP hitch uses bolts and MMG hitch is welded. The nylon wear strips, bolts, nuts etc. are the same. If the harness for the RTS would have been available separately I would have been using the MMG hitch. In fact if you look closely at my avatar, that is the MMG hitch. The MMG hitch cost $347.50 delivered to my door. My dealer gave me a break on the factory hitch but it was still close to $150 more. If I still had my RS I would be using the MMG hitch. Now that I have the harness I may go back to the Reese style hitch.

My concern would be warranty issues. BRP would be much more likely to cover any problems due to the hitch if it's their hitch. I also know of people having bearing failures using the MMG unit. For $150 difference I would go with the BRP unit just to keep everything warranty-friendly.

I would agree on the warranty part of the discussion. I thought the original poster had an GS which was not warranted for pulling any trailer.

Hitch

Guys & Gals:

We have installed the BRP hitch on my wifes 08. Installs easy, looks good. It's BRP, and you get a bonus wiring harness that you can sell.

Works great!
