• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Trailer Hitch Info Needed

Wow! :yikes:
Does anyone have their installation instructions handy? I'd like to hear what BRP says is the projected time for this chore.

It says nothing about a warranty being voided. Constantly repeating that BRP says that your warranty will be voided if you don't use their hitch is nothing but fear mongering. What is does say is and I quote "Only system on the market that maintains vehicle warranty requirements " Again nothing about voiding warranty.

I never stated that your warranty will be voided if you don't use their hitch, nor am I "fear mongering". You asked for the link, and I provided it. Interpret it as you wish.:dontknow:

I think the operative word is "system." If an aftermarket hitch that mounts exactly as BRP's is used, I don't see how BRP would have a legitimate argument to void any part of the warranty.

I wonder if they're referring to the warranty on the BRP trailer :dontknow:

Nope. They are using FUD to motivate owners to buy from them rather than after market. They really have no choice. If you install a factory designed and supplied part to your bike there is no way they can ever claim that it would void the warranty, hence the words "maintain warranty".

If they can show that using the after market part was the cause of a failure then they don't have to honor a warranty claim. In the the case of the hitch I don't see how they would ever be able to do that. If you don't use a trailer light module and you have a cluster failure they have a chance at denying a cluster warranty claim. If you use an after market isolator and have a cluster failure, and they can show the isolator failed and overloaded the cluster, killing it, then they have grounds to deny a warranty claim. If you use an after market isolator and the cluster fails, and the isolator is working properly, then you have a legitimate warranty claim.

If you pull a Can Am trailer loaded to 1000 pounds and your transmission fails, they can deny the claim since the tow limit is 400 pounds. If you tow an after market trailer loaded to 300 pounds and the tranny fails, they would have no basis to deny a warranty claim since you were within the published limit.

I was in the same spot you were a few months back, and would have bought the Big Bike Parts hitch except that someone on this forum had bought the BRP hitch and sold it to me at the same price as the Big Bike Parts hitch. Both mount in a similar fashion, and I wouldn't think twice about it due to the price difference. You can buy the Big Bike Parts hitch on Amazon for far less than $300.

After I installed the BRP hitch, i had issues with the wiring module. Since my trailer needed four circuits anyway, I removed the BRP electrical adapter and installed the one Big Bike Parts makes which has four separate circuits.

Hi I just installed a OEM tow hitch to my 2015 RTS, easy job took about 30 min to install the hitch, no need to take off brake caliper as per instructions. I just hooked the wiring for the lights directly into the rear light harness as the 4 pin module doesn't work in Australia, no provision for brake light.

Used option

Sometimes a dealer comes across a used hitch. My dealer came across one in perfect condition and I was able to buy it for $400 installed. You may want to call a few dealers and see if they have any.

Not a good idea. The turn signals are fed from the cluster. If you have a short in the trailer turn signal wires you stand the chance of screwing up a multi-hundred dollar cluster. You need to install an isolator between the bike wiring and the trailer wiring.
