Trailer Hitch - Any news Lamonster?

I am in the market for a Trailer Hitch and from years of towing with conventional motorcycles I won't be buying a swing arm mounted hitch.

So I will stick with a conventional frame mounted hitch.

And Lamonster you were pursuing a hitch I believe...

Any news

I was waiting for the finshed pics before I posted anything but here's what it looks like tacked up. I think they did a great job style wise and stress test show it will hold up just fine. They have some more road testing to do this week but you should be able to call Bushtec now and get on the list if you want one. I know they have a few spoken for all ready and Mike Corbin is one of them. :doorag:

Excellent!!!!
Thanks Lamont!!!
I like it, and even though it comes up the side, it looks like it wont interfere with possible side bags. Might even provide a place to mount/connect future stuff!!!
Any ideas on how they plan to finish it? (ie chrome, powdercoat, , anodize, rattlecan, etc.???)

That's one of the reasons Corbin is getting one to make sure his bags work with the Bushtec hitch. There will be a new Fairing comming out for the Spyder too. :doorag:

Thanks for the update, can't wait for the finished deal.

I think powder coated black is the way to go. Chrome would be too in your face.

Thanks

I've seen the swing arm mounted hitch, looks good and attaches easy. But since you've had experience with towing, and it sounds like you'd stay away from swing arm mounts, there must be a reason. And that is....? Looking at the photos in this area, it looks like it'd be easy to attach bags to the hitch for extra storage.

Duckster:

Think about it, the wheel is attached to the swing arm, it moves up and down with wheel. Right...

Your butt is on the seat which is attached to frame. Right. Which is helped by shocks to control up and down movement. Right.

Also think about towing with car, it would be like hitching the trailer to the rear end, which is like the swing arm, same up and down movement of wheel...

If attached to swing arm it now has to control wheel weight, plus an extra - say 25 lbs of (Tongue) weight.

Just sayin...

I think they plan on doing silver and black. It will look like a BRP product if they do it in silver. :doorag:

If you go to Can Am Talk under Tips and Tricks you will be able to read over 100 posts on the trailer hitch issue. At last word the only swing arm mounted hitch is produced by Mel's Monster Garage. It has been requested that he provide some sort of product performance documentation. So far the only word from MMG is that he claims to have the best hitch. He also advertises on Ebay that it is the best and only hitch for the Spyder, which is untrue. Read for yourself and make up your own mind. Hitches are traditionally mounted to the frame and not the swingarm. It matters not how strong it is in the grand scheme of things. If your hitch is swingarm mounted any bump you take on the road is absorbed by the trailer vs. the shock absorbing the energy, changing the dynamics of the suspension. There are also issues with the bearings/ seals. Bushtec has a new hitch soon to be released, Hannigan has a nice hitch available, and Hitch USA. All make a good solid product. It's your money do your homework. Cheaper isn't always better.....Ride Safe

Andrew was right!!! What a great looking hitch. I prefer the powder coat black finish. That's what I have and I like it. As far as frame mounted hitches at least there are choices now. Post some finished product photos. Everyone will love to see them....

I like it! :agree:

Frame mounted does not increase your unsprung weight so it would be the best way to go. Black powder coat would go with either the silver or the yellow Spyders.

I want to trailer one of my antique motorcycles to a club ride location, using my Spyder as the tow vehicle.

The idea of the silver is it will match the foot peg mounts but black or silver will work with both I think. :doorag:

Do you have links for the Hannigan & Hitch USA stuff? I can't seem to find it n their websites. Apparently, Bushtec wouldn't have it up on their site if it's not out of production yet.
Thanks,
Ollie
