There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Trading my Harley for an RSS

Questions

New member
Hello all, I'm new to the forums here. I would love to get some input before i start my negotiations with my Can-Am Dealer.

I am looking to trade in my 2013 Harley Street Glide. I've always had sportier bikes and find myself a more aggressive rider.

They have in stock a green 2013 RSS SM5, but say they can get me anything. I really like the look of the 2014 Red/Black RSS- SM5

My middle son loves green ( 5 kids ), but it's not my first pick, so after doing some research on 2013 vs 2014 RSS, i think i want to stick with the 2014 because of the improvements. Because i have not owned one of these yet, I am looking to you guys for some advice.

Should i save some money and go with the brand new 2013, or pay the extra cash for the 2014. Are the improvements worth it?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Choices choices..!!

both are great and the changes are minor. Budget wise...it's your pockets. Colorwise is by years and the new F3 will be interesting once we have the spec's in a couple of days. Wait till then and rethink. Which everway you go you will not regret the choice...:2thumbs: Welcome..!!

I would also recommend holding off for another 3 weeks or so and get the full information on the F3. That looks like it could be a game changer.

Don't choose quickly.

I can not speak from experience only what I have seen and read. You might want to consider the 14. The 2013's are the biggest I have seen with heat issues and warranty or not I would not want to fight that fight. I have a 2011 and have had nothing but minor issues. But if I was going to upgrade it would be to a 14 regardless of the price difference.

I have a 2013 RS-S, and I've had none of the seat cooking that RT riders have experienced. The only heat issue I have is exhaust heat coming out of the engine compartment vent on the left side. It's only noticeable at slower speeds, and only objectionable at a stoplight on a hot day. It's certainly no worse that a lot of motorcycles I've owned.

I could complain about a few niggling little build quality issues, but they aren't worth going into. Overall, I love mine. I can't imagine that the very minor changes between the '13 and '14 would mean the difference between being a satisfied and an unsatisfied owner.

Set yourself free...

What ever and whenever, post pics of which ever... ;-)

Welcome to the family & forum...

Happy trails, please enjoy your time spent here as well...

Welcome to the Party!! :yes::ohyea::yes:
This is a REAL bad time of the year to lock-in on only two model years' worth of bikes...
Particularly when the 2015s are being officially announced in just over a Month...
Are you willing to wait and see what 2015 is bringing to the table?
If not; I'd say pop for the 2014; the extra hood scoops seem to be really helping with the problems caused by underbody heat...

(Even though the RS line-up appears to NOT have been plagued with the issue for 2013; the upgrade certainly can't hurt!)

My 2cents worth is, wait until the 2015 RS/RSS is released, not to buy, but to possibly drive the price down
on the 2013 and 2014. Even try selling your Harley rather than trading in, might give you more leverage.

Also, if you enjoy sportbikes and like to ride aggressive, then the RSS if a good option

Thanks for all the reply's guys.

I saw the new 2015 picture today, and to be honest I'm not a fan of the new style. However, I'm not sure if that will be a new model, or they will all have that new design. I guess i could wait and see what happens over the next few weeks.

Thanks for all the advice, and i look forward to my new spyder. I will post pics as soon as i get mine.

Have to Agree

The new models will be out and on display soon. As one who bought in August of last year and didn't know better, I would wait until the new models are released and you should find that if you don't like the 15s you will get a sweeter deal on older models.

Reading your original post I suspect the new F3 model may not be for you just because the riding position appears to be more Harley like. From your description of the type of motorbike you like RS/RSS sounds a better fit. Certainly I found the RS suits me and my previous bikes have nearly all been 'road bikes' - I never got on with the one cruiser I had.

Tanshanomi mentions the 2013 RSS models don't seem to have suffered from the same heat issues as the RT/STs. From memory the only real difference between the 2013 and 2014 RSS models is the extra vents on the 2014's to help air movement. You can buy the relevant 2014 panels separately for around US$280 (according to another thread started by Lamont) so one option is to get a 2013 and get the dealer to fit the 2014 panels as part of the purchase. Personally I'd only go down this track if the 2013 was significantly cheaper than a 2014 - the reason being that though the 2013 issues appear to just have affected the RT/ST's most people don't realise the difference and are tarring all 2013 models at the moment.

Again in another thread someone mentioned their local dealer has already dropped the price on the 2014's knowing that the new models are imminent - if that's the case I'm not sure how much further they will drop when the new 2015's are announced. I also suspect there will be no radical changes to the RS/RSS for 2015 just because the F3 is the big new thing for 2015.

Just as important as your purchase is to research your dealer. It could make all the difference in your Spyder experience. I also live on Long Island. My bike was set up properly and I have had zero problems in 4 years of riding. I know another rider that bought from different dealer that had multiple issues from poor dealer set up.

Welcome to the site and congrats on the decision .

Spyder is a completely different animal

I love my green RSS , 14 colors are OK but I wouldn't change and now that it has the 14 panels on it love it even more.

Think you'll be happy either way

The RS is pretty much the same every year and pretty much bullet proof when compared to the RT's and ST's. They did change the handle bar position in 2013 and there are a few other minor changes like color choices. The 2015 model will be a major change but like any new vehicle coming on the market, buying it the first year out may not be the best thing to do. BRP does not have a good track record with this. There is likely to be major problems but if your a gambler go for it!!

The picture you saw was probably the F3 model, not the RS. I'd wait and see what the 2015 RS looks like and then, if you don't like it, go for the previous model year.
