• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Touring Model???

No cruise control? :dontknow:

How bout a factory trailer hitch and CB radio?
Just used to my Throttlemeisters, I guess, and so old that real cruise scares me a bit on a bike. Guess I forgot about it for that reason. Good idea, since the electroncs would just need some programming for the most part, and maybe a throttle servo.

Doubt their lawyers would give in to the hitch, given their boiler-plate prohibition against towing. That and a heavy duty suspension to accompany the luggage and hitch would be neat, though. This thing is tailor made for towing a trailer! CB is a novel option. Do any bikes have such a thing available now other than aftermarket? List revised.

It wouldn't surprise me if BRP steps out of the box on the trailer thing. It's the perfect platform for it and it would be one more thing to put the Spyder ahead of the game. It is a "Roadster" and not a motorcycle you know. ;)

:agree: With Scotty and Lamonster. There will be a touring "roadster". With everything mentioned before...

And it will have trailer hitch, and cruise control, and I predict a redesigned windshield and dash.
1. The dash will be larger, just above those two circles...in the middle a fixed box/compartment with options of choice to be installed: such as a Communications Center/CB or a nice built in GPS/Radio.
2. Windshield will be tinted, a touring windshield but not adjustable, because the dash will be higher.
3. Seats will be saddles not sawhorses.
4. There will be at least one 12v on the dash.
5. Rear fender will be redesigned for the trailer hitch, but you will know it is a Spyder.
6. There will be fog lights on the front struts that might even move when you turn.

I can only dream.... but dream I will

One more thing....

Wish that the SE5 today could handle more weight, it's not so much the weight but the distribution of weight. Here's the scenario, We went on an 800 mile trip through Arkansas this October. The picture below is from a similar trip to the BBB Rally in Sep '08

There was 35 lbs - (max in front end specs)
There was 25 lbs - hanging in that rear luggage rack/bag I made
Then there was 380 lbs between driver and me

We were approaching max load. Yet we had no trouble going 80mph on the Interstate (I-40). The problem came with the traction control system when we switched places and max weight in the rear resulted in shut down to Limp Mode certain times when we accelerated or we were going up a hill. Never happened when I was driving and more weight centered.

So the "Touring Model" needs to be re-designed to handle these loads. Limp Mode has to be re-programmed.

As long as we are exploring this possibility, I thought I would start a wish list of features I'd like to see in a bonafide "Touring Spyder".

1. Real luggage rack. Something you can attach bags to.
2. Integral, removable hard bags, like many sport-touring bikes.
3. Optional, removable topcase with backrest, to fit the luggage rack.
4. Slightly more relaxed leg position, but not highway pegs.
5. Higher handlebars a bit farther back.
6. Electrically adjustable windshield...wind-tunnel tested.
7. Better lighting to rear, for visibility.
8. Heated grips!
9. Powerlet 12V outlets for both passenger and operator.
10. Revised cowl/windshield to provide a bit more wind protection.
11. Longer fuel range via better mileage or larger tank.
12. Optional Trailer hitch.
13. Heavy duty suspension to increase carrying capacity.
14. CB radio?

OK, I know much of this is now available aftermarket, and maybe it creates a three-wheeled BMW clone, but it is my dream and I can rev it up any way I want to. What are your wishes and desires in this department? C'mon, chime in. Maybe BRP is watching.

Everything you suggest sounds good to me. Add in a 6 speed tranny with reverse and I'll be golden.

No one mentioned a 'Cup Holder' I am so impressed, looks like my thoughts were right, Spyder Riders are real riders.....

A small but important improvement to me would be the redesign of the rear view mirrors which as standard are almost useless at best.
