Touring Model???

I'm very new to the Spyder, but I've been bitten, kind of. I rode the Spyder last Saturday at the Tampa event and fell in love. Y'all are on to something.

I currently ride a Victory Vision, and before that a Wing for many years. So I've gotten spoiled by comfort, and the Spyder was lacking in two areas, the pegs, and the handlebars. The bars are an easy fix with risers. I sat on two with the risers and they felt much better than the demo model I rode.

But the pegs seem to be a bit harder to fix. I did see the mod that LaMonster made, and I think they might do the trick.

I have heard that Can-Am is releasing a Touring model in 2010? Does anyone know anything about this bike? If it is designed for touring it might address the comfort issues that I have.

I've owned a Ural with the sidecar, so riding the Spyder was no problem, in fact it brought back some fond memories. All in all I love the Spyder and am thinking seriously about selling the Vision and buying one. But, I first have to solve these comfort issues.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike

There are plenty of highway pegs set-ups out there -- Kewlmetal for one -- which let you stretch out on a long ride. No Magic Neon is just coming out with some pegs that will allow you to sue other off-the-shelf pegs. You can do a search on the posts here to see some of the things others have done.

I've found the riding position on the Spyder more comfortable than my VTX now that I have highway pegs and can stretch out occasionally.

I haven't heard anything lately except rumors about the touring edition...

I will be real surprised if, when a Spyder "Touring" model comes out, it just isn't a standard Spyder with a few of their bolt on accessories, like the Ultra Tour windshield. It is also possible that they may come up with a few new accessories, or resell something like the GIVI bags under license. I would seriously doubt a wholesale change in the basic machine. Your crystal ball is probably as cloudy as mine, however. :D Anything is possible.

I've pretty much got everything the way I like it comfort wise. My longest day in the saddle was just shy of 1200 miles in 19 hours and I have yet to do that on any of my bikes. I think the Spyder can be setup for any riding style you like. I have mine so it pretty much does all things well.

Feel free to call me if you have any questions. :doorag:

:agree: I think it is one of the most versatile machines out there...and very comfortable for either me or my wife. Since I am 6'0" and she is 5'2", that says a lot in my book.

Thanks NT, that does say a lot about the bike. I'm being swayed more and more toward the Spyder, but giving up the Vision is tough - it's just so comfortable, full of features, and one of the easiest bikes to ride I've ever experienced. Don't give up on me guys, you make very convincing arguments.

Wish List

As long as we are exploring this possibility, I thought I would start a wish list of features I'd like to see in a bonafide "Touring Spyder".

1. Real luggage rack. Something you can attach bags to.
2. Integral, removable hard bags, like many sport-touring bikes.
3. Optional, removable topcase with backrest, to fit the luggage rack.
4. Slightly more relaxed leg position, but not highway pegs.
5. Higher handlebars a bit farther back.
6. Electrically adjustable windshield...wind-tunnel tested.
7. Better lighting to rear, for visibility.
8. Heated grips!
9. Powerlet 12V outlets for both passenger and operator.
10. Revised cowl/windshield to provide a bit more wind protection.
11. Longer fuel range via better mileage or larger tank.
12. Optional Trailer hitch.
13. Heavy duty suspension to increase carrying capacity.
14. CB radio?

OK, I know much of this is now available aftermarket, and maybe it creates a three-wheeled BMW clone, but it is my dream and I can rev it up any way I want to. What are your wishes and desires in this department? C'mon, chime in. Maybe BRP is watching.
