• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

To Steve (BRPcare) about DESS issues

If BRP insists they know best, and the failures are still happening, it is time to send new ECMs with factory disabled DESS.

This is one more reason that eventually BUDS, like automotive electronic interface data such as OBDII should not be allowed to be controlled by BRP and in theory only available at a dealer.

.I agree with you 110% on this......Yes I got my Module changed at Spyderfest this year but I was willing to take my FRUNK off ....so they would take the 10 minutes to re-place it :clap::clap:....and I am grateful it was done......However I'm not STUPID ..... and I don't believe I won't be stranded somewhere else at some other time because this MODULE also FAILED .......The problem is " BRP HAS THEIR HEADS SO FAR UP THEIR * SSES " on this, the US Govt. may have to AGAIN put BRP's feet to the FIRE to get them to FIX IT ......And if Honda, Yamaha, or Kawasaki ever go after BRP's Spyder market.........They won't be able to sell Spyder's at half what they are selling now.............and Yep this is JMHO......Mike

I agree with what all of you have said. The basic design is pretty good but the electronics are a mess. I'm seriously considering selling my 14 RTL just because of the concern about getting stuck someplace. The second one of the Jap bike companies builds something with 2 wheels in the front and one in the rear I'll be in line with my checkbook.

It would seem that someone that could come up with a replacement ECM or some way to over write the BRP program that solves the problems could make some serious $$$

Doesn't seem that Steve is listening, if he is he's not answering!:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

Steve can't answer unless the higher ups give him something to say, and I'm sure he is reading what is posted on SL's, and relaying it on. Before Steve there were others; the first was Carlo. Carlo used to read the comments here, and he sometimes got in touch with Lamont to get more information. I know that for a fact b/c Lamont contacted me one time for more info to relay on to Carlo.

.:yikes:,.......Here's the thing Sam , BRP ALREADY HAD A MODULE / IGNITION SYSTEM .........THAT WORKED FINE .......This entire thing didn't occur until the 2014 model year, when someone at BRP decided a NOT - BROKEN - ITEM ---- NEEDED TO BE FIXED :lecturef_smilie: :gaah: :gaah: :gaah:.............I hope that person GOT FIRED .....Sorry but this this BS really has me PI**SED OFF........If this doesn't get fixed PRIOR to BRP's BIG PARTY at Valcort in 2017........I think it may turn into a RIOT with some TAR & FEATHERS ....... Party :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: .......Mike :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I Contacted BRPCare

Since I haven't had the DESS issue yet, I emailed BRP Care via their website proactively about it. I gave them my year, model, mileage, and VIN# in the event there is a link to this issue with these factors. I got a 2 sentance reply:
1. There is currently no recall, or safety bulletin on your vehicle, and
2. If these would be issued, the dealers and customers will be informed.
The terseness of their reply took me by surprise. To me, it showed a lack of concern on BRP's part for this problem. Why would I ever contact them in the future??? If anybody makes anymore headway with BRPCare please post it here.

Pay attention BRP

Which is worse, an unreliable bike or an unreliable wife? The solution to each is the same.

does anyone know how many wires go to the dess module. i am sure a electronics shop could figure out how to jump it out if they knew what it consisted of

.......There are TWO plugs into the MODULE, with TWO wires in each PLUG........Mike :bbq:

I would say that its high time for BRP to come out and tell everybody that there is a problem with the 2014-2016 bikes and tell us they are working on a solution But no, BRP is so secretive about things they aren't saying a thing or even saying there is a problem. I would hate to even count how many modules have be replaced and as everybody knows, it's not the FIX. I would hate people to experiment on there bikes and start cutting wires to help bypass the key DESS problem. This would cause no telling what problems to our Spyders. I have a 2015 RTS and haven't been bitten by the dreaded DESS failure, but with all the DESS failures being reported , it sure doesn't give you peace of mind when you get on your Spyder to take a trip.

Just looked on the BRP parts site, looks like the DESS module is not for sale. My thought was to get one and find a shop to find out what makes it tick. [TABLE="class: gv, width: 0"]

well that sounds to me like one set of wires power the module, and the other set are on a open contact that closes when the key is found. so then if the open relay is jumped out, it closes the circuit and the bike will start

I like the direction this thread is going. Only other thing I can think of is that BRP may get the message if they were looking at a class action lawsuit.

Think of it like a phone line. It's not just the connection that's important. It's the information that is passed back and forth is also important. The bank manager calls the bank and tells them to open the safe and give them the combination. The combination can only be used once and never can be used again. They open the safe and the bank is in business for the day. So if you cut the phone line that's is only 2 wires and jumper them together. That does nothing. The bank manager cannot talk to the bank. No one at the bank knows the combination. They can't open the safe. Out of business.

DESS 4th go around

My dealer just told me that their BRP tech told them they are NOT even working on the problem because once you have the latest and greatest module the problem is fixed unless you have another source of RFI causing the problem...

If it ever stops raining here, the next trip on my Spyder I will put my cell phone and vehicle keys back in the right saddle bag in my cooler and see if the problems returns or not...

JUST MAKES ME PROUD TO BE AN OWNER OF SUCH A FINE MACHINE...

PS I have a GREAT dealer and they are trying to help in any way possible...
