• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

if you dont take it out it will go into your air box, take it out.:yikes:

Agree. Assume you are following the proper oil level checking procedure -- engine fully warmed up from a ride (don't rely on the temp gage reading but actually ride it to get it hot), then shut it down and check the oil. If you're not doing that, the oil level is probably even higher than you think.

Conventional wisdom on the forum seems to be that if it is overful, it will foam more (making checking the level difficult) and will find it's way into the airbox. I personally try to run just around the half-full mark when checked truly hot. Which means cold it does not even appear on the dipstick.

Use a turkey baster and some vinyl tubing and it's easy to draw some out. Makes the turkey taster better, too.

I was told to start mine and leave it until the fan comes on then turn it off and check it,usually have mine about 3/4 on the dipper

I never noticed the instructions for checking the oil at room temp before. That will probably be the way I do it from now on. I like to check the oil before I go for a ride, not after. My service manual says the same thing. Thanks for posting.

I noted those instructions early on. I found from experience that this technique results in overfilling. If you go back and check it hot, it will be overfull. I never use the "cold" technique. I suspect following this "cold" technique is why so many bikes seem to come from the dealers that are overfilled. They can't afford the time to ride it and get it hot so they follow this procedure. Just my opinion but I think this procedure is in error. The oil level that counts is the level when hot so why not take the time and check it hot? That way you know you're correct.

I especially like the added flavor of a Castrol 10w 40 and it does wonders for the digestion....:roflblack::roflblack:
Castrol?

Never tried that one. How is it, if you add some chipotle sauce to it? :dontknow:

Mine has been at least that much over full for both changes done by the dealer. I believe that they put all five quarts in and not just the 4.5 as required. I had no loss and no oil into the air cleaner. I don't believe that 1/4 inch over full will be any kind of a problem.
