Time to Change the Rear Tire

I'm just about to hit 8,500 miles on my spyder and like a lot of other riders I will need to change the rear tire soon.

From other treads I've read, I've decided to not buy an OEM tire.

I'd like to know what kind of mileage you guys have gotten with a car tire on the rear wheel. If you have a brand and model to suggest over another I'd be happy to listen as well.

Thanks.

I'm putting the Kumho on this coming week. Others have gotten 22-24k out of the Kumho, and it seems to have a higher wear number though those often don't mean anything. It is also one of the most affordable. I think the Kumho is the one that most have gone to.

I just put a BF Goodrich g-Force Sport on mine last month. I really like this tire on the rear of my Spyder as well. I got it from a Tire Kingdom for $115 or so, then had to pay the dealer to mount it for me which was another $80.

I was hoping it would be a little more sticky, but since putting the O2 Modifier and K&N filter in my air box I have no trouble burning this tire from a stop with my SE5. :yikes: Perhaps I need to find a way to put more weight on the rear?

I installed the Kumho in June. It's a decent tire, but it's not as good as stock in the rain. I think the next time I'll go with the G-Force...it looks like it would channel water better than the Kumho (IMHO). I don't think I'll have to replace the Kumho any time soon; it should last WAY longer than the stock tire.

just installed a 912 falken on mine just a few miles yet.Didnt have to balance it and have no vibration at all

I lean towards the Yokohama AVS ES100 which is available from Tire Rack for $108.00

I have this tire, but not pics of it right now, I can snap one later and post it. I'm not seeing much better tread life, but a bit better. I replaced my stocker with around 7500 miles, I'm almost at 12000 now and I'm guessing I might get another 3000 out of it. To be fair I have done a few burnouts with it though.

Well crap... I've got the Kumho waiting for me at this dealer here in my home town in Utica NY...

I thought it was at least as good in the rain based on other's reports.
