There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Ticking sound

Hi all, just joined! I just bought a 2010 rs-s se5 and I love it!! My only issue is that there seems to be a ticking type noise that comes from the front left wheel area when I'm riding. It's not always there and it happens at all different speeds. It comes and goes all the time as I ride. I have a Leo Vince exhaust without the baffle in and I can still hear this ticking type sound so it's pretty loud. Any idea what it could be? Any help would be appreciated. I've never driven any other spyder so I don't know if it's a normal sound or not. Thanks!!

:dontknow:
If you could pin point the ticking a little better, Someone might help you with an answer. With the limited info all i can say Look for a foreign object in the drive belt,or tire,or a lose tire balancing Weight, or a hanging wire to the running light, could even a brake pad??

A ticking sound louder than a Leo exhaust? Better look into that. It's new, maybe recently assembled...it's got a warranty. There's a lot to assemble, even by the dealer. There have been mistakes, missed pieces and unfinished assembling. Take it in.

A regular ticking sound, that speeds up as you go faster, is usually the brake rotor vents passing by the brake pads. That is normal. It is also possible to have debris stuck in the caliper, or fender, a rock in the tire tread, or a wheel bearing problem, though. Without actually hearing the noise it is hard to say if it is normal or unusual. A clicking sound when you apply the brakes is normal, and is related to the ABS system the Spyder uses. These sounds are funneled to the rider by the aerodynamics, and are probably not as loud as you think they are. If you are worried, report them to your dealer to troubleshoot and explain.

No, it's the timer for the explosive charge. Haven't you heard of people taking a demo ride and saying they were 'Blown Away!" ? :D

Cotter pin was hitting my wheels weights. Took me forever to figure this one out!

Wow! I'd say you win the prize for this one! You got my vote anyway. Who would have thought!

Even Scotty didn't mention this one! :D

:opps: That one snuck up on me the first time, too. You'd think I would have remembered. :opps:

I agree with Scotty, I had that also when mine was new, came and went, eventually went away no dought something with the brakes.

My RT S does the same thing. It's the rotor cooling holes passing the brake pads. Irritating at times, but part of the beast.

Everything looks ok...I guess!!

So I took off the front left wheel and there was nothing stuck in the tread or in the fender or amything like that. The brakes looked ok, i cleaned them a bit. Put everything back amd went for a ride and about 5 min into it I hear that damn ticking again!!! Its seems to last for like a minute to 2 minutes and then goes away and then comes again after about 3-5 minutes. Its just a bit annoying. Sounds a bit mechanical in nature like its supposed to be there but its not there all the time. I think everyone is right about the air passing threw the holes causing the noise but I just dont get why it would come and go. Thanks for all the help!! GREAT forum!!

Not sure if I classify my suspicion as ticking (ticking to me is like an injector type of sound or a valve knocking...), but since sound definition is personal, i'll try...

Without having a Spyder myself, but from my experience with other bikes - does this sound frequency change with the wheel rotation speed?
In other words, does it tick faster when you go faster?

If it does - I would not dismiss a possibility of a bent rotor along with the sticky slider pin(s) on the caliper.

If the rotor is bent and the pads are not retracting fully every time, this sound could come and go.

Does anyone else think this is plausible on a Spyder?

I have the same problem in my left front, can only hear it at low speed it is a 09 with about 200 miles on the clock.I have not had a chance to check it.Reminds me of the old dirt bike days when I used to get a stick. stuck somewhere.
